Jong Kuen was discarded by Ip Man as added no benefit to Wing Chun, if you break down the movements they are repititions of concepts contained in the other sets.

From the list of people Mathias has trained with I have no idea where he could have learned it, from the dodgy vids my assumption is that he read about it in a book, added it to what he teaches claiming to have learned it properly.

Why not ask your teacher where he learned it? Then you can follow other students of that person to see if the pattern is still in use.

Please do not discredit all of Wing Chun because of a few outspoken and highly visible people of questionable integrity. Wing Chun is a useful, effective system when done properly, like most martial arts.

 

I do not believe you but I encourage you to attempt to prove that statement correct.

With which part do you disagree? That Wing Chun is effective if done properly? That most martial arts are effective if done properly?

In both cases, the key is "if done properly". Maybe I was being too generous when I said "most" martial arts.

As a beginning Wing Chun student, I am hardly in a position to demonstrate its effectiveness. I have seen it in use and I am convinced that it works. I am trying to give other martial arts the benefit of the doubt. I would like to think that they would not have survived for so long if they were completely useless.

Look, you seem well adjusted from the two posts I've seen, but we've been down this road a lot. Could you post a video example of what you mean by proper wing chun? I've seen the content used well, but never by someone who actively identifies himself as a
wing chun practicioner.
