In what areas are you willing to train? There are a few HEMA guys on the board and they might be able to help. I am a HMB guy (Full contact sport in medieval armour/weapons) so I would not be in a position to assist, only George Silver material I have had exposure was training with Terry Brown (author of English Martial Arts) in Mill Hill, London but it was too far at the time to travel.

Have you tried the boxing, wing chun or BJJ schools you were going to look at yet?

    What did you think?

I don't really know about white whales as such. There are styles I wish I'd done more of such as Chaquan, Bak Sil Lum, Liangyiquan and Bak Mei.
Maybe Maphilindo Silat? I always really like the look of that.

Never said i was goign to look at the wing chun. Havent goen to the city for a trip yet to look at the BJJ. The boxing club i need to wait to see if it can find somewhere to operate form in town as it was being booted out of its previous location. :p ( i also ahve not fixed my prestanding problems to make it easier yet. I may by extention look at the wing chun though since its the same building as the BJJ school. ;) )

Workign on memeory none of the ones nearish to me on the directories i looked at i would be willing/able to go to. Im going to pull a ghetto swordsman and mess up my foot work development. London is definately too far i live in the Midlands. XD

Why so specific in the style of bagua?

... Is that the style that Aang learned?

    Good question

Bagua is actually available in my city but time constraints mean i cant get to the sessions. The only way I would do so would be with a system with a hefty combat pedigree

Wang is a personal hero of mine so it would be awesome to close that loop

Practice it for years, but can go no further without a good sifu and there are not any close enough for me to continue; Xingyiquan.

I have also become interested in Chun Kuk Do but there are no school near me so I have no opportunity to check it out.

And I would not mind checking out a real Hapkido school.... can't seem to be able to find one, they say Hapkido, but they are not Hapkido

I don't recommend praying about with a sword unsupervised. It's likely very dangerous and the likelihood of you teaching yourself correctly is very slim.

You said you have some issues preventing you getting to class. I might be going out on a limb but are they are psychological or in anyway related to mental health? In my early twenties I used to suffer from social anxiety and occasional panic attacks which I attribute to teenage drug use. Mine was mild enough to overcome myself. Physical training was actually quite helpful in overcoming it. If it is anything like that then I wish you the best with it and can say that when you are able to make a class it'll probably help.

I am safe enough to do light training, just swinging the sword in the air or against a pole or something. Was looking at getting a single stick for the purpose of training and indian clubs to better exercise the arms. :p (indian clubs are going on christmas list) Onto the medical ones the only two i am addressing is a messed up great toe nail, which limits what i can do (if i rememebr to ask the doctor to look at it, i will get their opinion) and suspected IBS. It would be easier for me to do martial arts classes if i all ready had knowledge in it. My humours circle. Perhaps if i got attacked and defended myself that would be a confidence boost but i dont think i need to state the reasons why thats a bad idea. Most of my problems are being looked into and its time thing now. (definitely wouldn't have a lot of problems if i had a knife on me but English carry law woes ) Can kind of see why i want to do the ones which get you fighting ready quicker. :p

You are scared to go into the city?

I dunno dude but it sounds like you put a lot of bizarre barriers up for yourself. Maybe you just like talking about martial arts on the net... not like I can throw stones there. All the best with it.

So much wrong in one post.

One good blade awareness session and you realise why.

I bet you don't even know the laws.

3inch or less non lockable folder is legal to carry in England and Wales. Other than that the rest unless specfically banned is subject to a valid reason or excuse to be carrying it, i forget the wording they use. but that basiclaly goes down to officers discretion fi they deem that reason valid or belive you. I only have the former type of knife anyway past kitchen ones. Thats the only amount i have looked at anyway, i may go and read the act someday but i said that about two others and never got around to it. Thats carry law anyway, not getting into what defines something as a offensive weapon, legal self-defence, reasonable force etc. Oh, i did skim a little of the CPS website somoen linked inr egards to carry law, i think it was anyway.

It is a city that i do not live in which i would need to take public transport to go to and i do enjoy martial arts discussion on the internet. Also my private messages are open for anyone, just a general note. Would be slightly more forth coming there. :p

They are valid reasons for on and off doing martial arts none the less, and i wanted to elaborate on the reasons.

I know this is bad but I'd love to just try out Kendo sparring. The art itself isn't my cup of tea but I'd love to spend an hour in armour and just have at it with bamboo swords.

    Shocking, isn't it?

Seriously, he does find an excuse for any argument you give him.
By now I seriously doubt, that he actually wants to train something, but only likes to talk about it.
Which wouldn't even be much a problem, if one is honest (to oneself, most importantly) about it.

I have also been reading your posts now, and I wonder... if you don't mind me asking, how old are you, Rataca? I mean, are you young that you don't feel confident going to a different city by yourself, or are you used to drive a car everywhere? I mean, There aren't dangers lurking everywhere on the streets. Or maybe there are, but those are everywhere. When I was 18, I went to London by myself - you know - foreign country, huge city, different language I wasn't quite fluent in... but it was really easy to get on public transport or get on a train and do a trip to some nature reserve outside of the city. And find out my way in the fields only remembering I need to go around 5 km northward, at a time when there weren't smartphones and google maps around (or at least I didn't have it). What I want to say is that I had worries, too, but you try once and find the nice feeling that you can just do it and it actually feels nice, you can have that confidence in yourself. You will hardly ever learn to defend yourself if you are too worried to go to any MA class. If you live out of civilization somewhere, at some point, you will probably still need to go to the city. By train. By yourself. It is a challenge to get out of your comfort zone, but unless you do, you will never move forward.

You seem to be asking a lot of questions and opinions on many MAs, but never actually try out. Well, there is nothing wrong with that. You may be interested in theory and in the forum discussions. Why not? But be honest about it. You always say how you look for opportunities, but make, I am sorry, but some a little absurd-sounding excuses. Nobody is forcing you to go to the class. It is up to you, but there is no reason to make excuses like that. Though I still recommend trying a class of anything if you ever get around to it. Chances are you'll find it fun ;)

I do go to the city, but its not necessity and its in social hours via public transport with somone else. I dont need to go as i have super markets in my town. Not living in a city and going there in un social hours and im not too sure about the area if it would be deemed public view or not is not my cup of tea, at least without someone else or the ability to whoop most people out there. I would opt and prefer personal transport, granted its jsut as fast as a bus in comparison to a train but hey ho. My "excuses" have to be taken at face value. (im not too sure i can post a picture of my nail in public or even private messages) Im not willing to share any medical records etc.
I am also a townie, you know how townies are, dont like city folk. :p

I actually going to look at them at some point, i dont need to make excuses im just stating the reasons why i have not gone to them yet. I feel no obligation to going to them, im just joining in on discussion. (point may have been repeated) As stated above as well, if i could carrya weapon/kick majorty of peoples arses it would be a diffrent story.

Perceived threat matters as well is probbly the biggest hint i could state as well. Or Agoraphobia could be a better one.

My PM's are also open. (think i may be derailing this kind of)

Pretty jumbled its late and i couldnt orchastrate a good reply without the confidence i would get the same point across if i deleted some bits of it
