Who would win, if there were a competition between a kung fu martial artist and a Mui Thai kick boxer? Does anyone know what the specs would be on who would get first hit, or first KO? And, how long do you think the fighters would duke it out for? Time, rounds, blows, etc,....

been done in the seventies. kung fu fighters did not fare very well. modern san shou fighters are doing a little better, after adopting muay thai techniques and training methods.

San Shou is full contact kung fu and it's been around forever. It's not a modern art and they haven't adopted muay thai training.

It depends. Yep, great answer I know. Basically, it depends on to what extent the Kung Fu guys have trained to fight. Yes, I know that sounds kinda stupid, considering it's a martial art, but honestly. If those who have trained Kung Fu are in similar condition, have trained to fight against people outside their style using applicable skills and have the same fighting mentality...they have every chance of doing well. If they don't, they probably won't win. You could probably argue that it would depend on the exact style of Kung Fu, and all that, and you could probably also add that if the Kung Fu practitioner was experienced in Chin Na (an area that Muay Thai doesn't contain), they would have an advantage. But overall, it depends. I guess we'll just have to wait until it happens one day, eh? ^_^

    Take care,

    Stalks

    Challenge met.

I'm at about 160lbs, so you might beat me Ikken, but I'm gonna get a web cam, and lose ten pounds and then we will see who is talking taller!

I don't know san shou style, but I know Shaolin Kung Fu, with a wing chun style boxing and kicking, mixed with a small amount of JKD and Arnis.

I am probobly not is as good as condition yet, but I can still pull punch rather well... kick, throw, and grapple for every pound I weigh. I would probobly break a sweat faster though :)

I will try some stances this next week, and see if I can get back into my better weight class. Then maybe a web cam...

Something similar was tried in '74 in Hong Kong and there have been many matches since. Here's some info on it.

    From an interview with Coban
    http://www.realfighting.com/1001/coban.htm

    Here's a bit more:

    from Pop Praditbatuga's site
    http://www.arach.net.au/~burnie/muay.html

And here's more - this time with pictures and names of the fighters who fought. Bascially images of many Kung Fu fighters and the like being trounced by MT fighters. lol. :D

    Mui Thai VS Shaolin

So if I beat a Mui Thai fighter, it will be the first time ever?

Good, all the more reason to train harder...

By the way, has anyone seen a Mui Thai guy go to the shaolin temple to spar?

    lol.

Yeah - some kid from the rice paddy/pineapple field who's fighting so he can make money for his family back home in some ass poor province in Thailand is going to hop on a plane and go someplace almost poorer than his native province to spar. All for no money and nevermind the fact the he doesn't speak the language.

Where do you get this stuff?

Have you been to China? I suggest you get there and take some time to figure out how things are set up there, do some studying, learn some language, and maybe even train with some monks - and then worry about beating Muay Thai fighters just a tad later. :D

You do know for a fight to take place you actually need to make contact with the other person right? A webcam isn't going to do much except let you and IKken sit and compare muscles... and also just for the record how good a fighter you are is not always reflected by how musclebound you look; if it was all of the models for mens fitness magazines would be winning K1 in between their photo shoots.

O.k, thanks for the advice, I would like to go to china.

However, this computer is the nicest thing I own, and I am doing charity work currently, until I get back on my feet to do construction.

I do know some small amont of mandarin/Cantonese "Ni how ma"?

I don't expect Ikken to defeat the shaolin temple, or anyone else.
I'm typing about how people practice Kung Fu, cool?

Yeah, but the only thing I have to put on this web forum, is what you see.
The only other alternative is to arrange a spar, or fighting match.

However, he lives on the other side of the friggin world man!!

I do spar quite often though... for not attending any classes.
This web forum is mostly for sharing knowledge, and/or photos
of fights or methods of martial arts.

im sorry, are we fighting over webcam or something? and height isnt everything in fighting- short stronger people can often beat taller people who weigh the same. look at Zambidis for one, 5'1 and he is one of the top kickboxers in the world, often fighting people above his weight class even.

    funny stuff

No, that sounds like your avoiding positive energy. :)

Never been Koed with a smile huh? Don't make me laugh. You seem to have a problem with being shorter, but I won't kick you hard, I'll just use throws.

    Wow...

Ikken, he's not going to kick you hard. Aren't you happy? And just throws...good thing for him you don't have any Judo training or anything...

im sorry, i just dont understand what this is supposed to mean. did I miss something here? like the LSD? you dont even know how tall I am do you? you can talk all you like, but you wont ever come here so why bother? unless this is just some kind of fantasy you are building in your head.

Im so hard I talk in my style of forum

Common down the price is right, and so is the lesson too. O.k., maybe this guy can punch as hard as Tyson, so why and the heck is he so reluctant to spar then?

I say, if he is so hard up to prove Mui Thai can beat everything else, let him come here bring a friend and do a fair and square sparring match. Thats all...
Otherwise, maybe I should post abunch a bully stuff in Mui Thai section, right?

Oh yeah, and the friend is so you won't feel bad when I introduce you to the grass. Thats right "lawn grass" the green stuff you walk on....
