The SAS had Chris Ryan, Andy McNabb, Lewis Collins and Ross Kemp advertising them, and the SBS gets paddy pants down....that says it all really
Cults & The Wing Chun Boxing Academy From this site (however, it is only one dudes opinion, and we don't know the other side of the story) Andrew formed his breakaway Wing Chun School, the SAS Academy. This of course has no connection to the SAS, but it makes the kung fu sound more effective and 'hardcore'! Perhaps the name was inspired by Lakis' Delta Wing Chun Academy which had a special forces sounding name - Delta Force - but could possibly have been a Greek reference - clearly SAS is not a Greek reference! Or also it could be a reflection of the fixation the Sofos brothers had with running their respective schools as if they were part of the military. The rest of that site makes some rather disturbing reading.
That's a lot of reading to get through for my short millenial attention span. What's the cliff notes?
It's been a while, so .. Andrew seems ok... can't say much, but the brother was basically operating something close to a cult group. Bit of a fruitcake and possibly a dangerous one. I read quite a lot back in the day, but my main gripe is that one of my cousins attended his school and it got to the point where he tried to recruit him to sell cannabis on his behalf sort of thing.. My cousin wasn't into it and left. But yeah, a bit dark, gangster ish and a lot of the crappy side of traditional arts with that one. This was a while back so maybe things have changed. But I read that he basically used and abused his students for as much as he could get away with.
I'm almost bothered by the choice to prefix his name with "sifu" rather than suffix it, as would be done when the term is used natively. So really I'd say he should be Andrew Sofos Sifu...
Actually if your looking for a trad school, things like that are a big giveaway that the school ain't what is says it is!
