I had a great time. Thanks again to JT for bringing me down and hosting for me for a second time this year! It was great hanging out with him again. I also meeting new people I hadn't met before, like Mushroom! :D

Now the new MAP is up and running it's time to post the pictures and videos of the day.

Firstly I'd be interested to know if those in other countries and those that couldn't make it enjoyed the Facebook live videos.

We wanted to open the meet up to as many of you as possible and if you liked it then we will look to do even more next year, maybe with a few fixed cameras around the venue.

Not everyone who attended is in this picture, as some had to leave early.

Nice touch by Mushroom to get the Bloodwise t-shirt in the shot.

It was also really nice that some of you wore the t-shirts they provided.

Another newcomer to the MAP Meet was Ricky, one of Janno's guys.

Janno couldn't make the meet due to business commitments, but sent along one of his instructors.

I'll be honest and say that I wasn't sure because although I know Janno I didn't know Ricky.

I picked him up from the train station and from the get go he was friendly, relaxed and looking forward to teaching.

His first session was edged weapons and the participants picked things up so well he had to add to his planned techniques.

The second session was stick and dagger and I was impressed just how many movements he got everyone to do.

Ricky was skilled, calm and in great control. I emailed Janno after the event saying how impressed I was and that Ricky will certainly be invited back.

I'm sure everyone who took one or both of his sessions would echo that.

I'd like to add, as a participant in Ricky's first session, he was an engaging and knowledgable instructor. He was able to answer my (numerous) questions in a simple, easy to understand manner.
His skill with a knife is terrifying; at one point, whilst demonstrating a variation of a technique, and in a flash the knife disappeared from one position and the next thing I knew it was at my neck. Absolutely terrifying stuff.

If Ricky is back next year, I'll definately be going through his sessions again!

Having Ricky run a knife all over me for the demos in the first session has to come in as some of both the most fun, and terrifying, moments of my life! A knife instructor with no delusions about beating knives in real life. Having never done knife work before it was a brilliant way of learning in practice what I already knew in theory, 'You probably ain't gonna beat a knife'. I will definitely go for another session if he comes back!

As for the rest of it, really awesome day! The wrestling was fantastic, as was getting time with Smurf, and what's not to love about waving swords around!? A fun roll with Chadderz was great, and the day had a very nice social feel to it, I'll be keeping in touch with people, and visiting some clubs, and if anyone is ever near Telford with free time, drop me a message, and we'll do some work!

  8. Mushroom

Mushroom De-powered to come back better than before.

I've trained with Ricky before. He's very slick. When Janno said he had a replacement...he weren't messing about.

This. This is exactly what the Meet is about. Meet, learn, make new friends, grow. Spot on :)

I got chance to chat with Ricky for a while as other sessions were running, and was very impressed with what an open, honest and skilled individual he was, both as an exponent and instructor. He was a great addition to the meet and exactly in the spirit of it :)

    HEMA

Due to family commitments Scott was unable to attend the meet to take a Japanese sword session, so Aegis pulled out all the stops, got some swords at very short notice and did a very well received HEMA session.

The session was really popular and something we will definitely have in the 2018 meet, which I'm going to book in the next few days.

We really do owe Aegis a big thank you for sorting this out. The weapons were even donated to the raffle at the end of the meet.

I really enjoyed teaching my two sessions and would like to thank Simon for trusting me to take these sessions at such short notice and also everyone who enthusiastically came along and gave it a go!

dunc again took a NInjutsu session and Mitch commented that anyone who hadn't trained with dunc before should do so.

Not only is he charming and relaxed, but he has a grace and beauty to his movement that Mitch and I both remember from last year.
