I did a yoga session last week, i felt really loose after but the next two days i was in agony, my hamstrings ached every time i stood up. Thinking about it it occurs to me that we effectively were doing static stretching, which i am led to believe is not good. But if its not good then why does yoga do it this way?
static stretching is not good before strength training or explosive movements, because it relaxes your muscles, and can lead to lack of stability and injury. yoga is both static stretching and strength work at the same time, similarly to gymnastics, thus evades this problem
Chances are you ache so much now because you have a bad case of DOMS, due to your muscles not being use to the movements you were doing in yoga.
Thanks guys, i had done some resistance training in the morning so im guessing that didnt help with the pain. Just out of interest would it be ok to do a workout in the morning then yoga in the evening?
