Hi, sorry, but this is my first post on this site, but have read quite a few articles on here.

Myself, and a few others at my club, experience quite a tight feeling on the inside and to the back of our knees when we try to stretch our legs for a side split. It more feels like a ligament is about to snap than a stretch, and actually prevents me from wanting to stretch our any further. Its quite painful to stretch it and feels like it will snap if i go to far. Its exaclty the same in both legs.

From what i can gather this muscle is called the semitendinosus, or the semimembranosus.....can anyone confirm?

And if this is the muscle, will simple hamstring stretches help or do i need to do some sort of "release" of this muscle so that i can stretch better, or specific stretches to target this muscle?

    Thanks again
