Swollen knuckle

I currently train hapkido 2x week and seido karate 1 or 2xs per week.

My right middle knuckle has been swelling with pain. In karate we do knuckle push ups on on our front 2 knuckles and in hapkido we do a lot of closed fist pad striking.

I recently stopped doing the knuckle push ups (with permission from my sinsei) and plan to wear gloves while doing pad work.

I plan on seeing a doctor this week. Has anyone had similar isssues?

    Cheers.

    Hey

    Yes, have been there.
Apart from seeing the doctor , which is the only sensible thing to do, i would recommend that you do not punch or otherwise put any strain on that knuckle untill the swelling is gone and you can do the knuckle push ups again with no pain.

The worst thing you can do is to ignore it and try to keep on. We humans have quite delicate bones in our hands, they were not intended to be used like a hammer and you have got to take swellings seriously.

Depending on what the doctor will tell you build up, very slowly.

Wish you the best of luck.
