I'm looking for recommendations on any books, dvds or youtube channels/ videos that I could consult to gain a good grounding in stretching? My stretching to date, has been pretty basic and I've decided to put much more time and effort into this part of Martial Arts / Health and Fitness.

I've heard excellent things about 'Becoming a Supple Leopard'

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Becoming-Su...qid=1419352333&sr=1-1&keywords=supple+leopard

and this site it good too:

If you're interested in mobility work then Mike Robertson and Eric Cressey have good information on their sites and their 'Magnificent Mobility' and 'Inside Out' DVDs are excellent:

Also Joe DeFranco's Agile 8, Simple 6 and Limber 11 are good routines

    ^ What she said.

You don't need to invest a lot of time in stretching. Just invest time in the right kind of stretching.

Well, I know some people are not fond of static stretching on here.

But I love and use these books.

"Ultimate Flexibility:a complete guide to stretching for Martial Arts" by Sang H. Kim It breaks down what stretches are good for specific goals for specific types of martial arts. It also has different levels of stretches and talks about what stretches to avoid with certain injuries.

I also use "Devalier's Stretching Anatomy" by Frederic Devalier. Good illustrations and descriptions of the muscles being utilized.

Redcoat Ninja has a very good stretching FAQ type post here on MAP somewhere. I would do a search for it.

Not necessarily. A lot of flexible people got those results by stretching as children, so when they show stretches they're really only displaying flexibility rather than teaching how to develop it. As an adult, you won't get the same results using the same methods.

Have a look at the stretching instructions in the sticked thread at the top of this sub-forum and play around with the methods until you're making the best gains possible.

Are there any other books or videos out there in cyberspace that we should be looking at?

This book was mentioned on Totally Tae Kwon Do's facebook page but there seems to be only one reviewer on facebook and it's the same person that reviewed the book on amazon. That seems a bit suspicious to me but I wanted to check with all of you. Also, the book was printed in 2010 and it appears to be out of print. Five years is not a long time.

I'm partial to all of Thomas Kurz stuff. If you look up Andreo Spina and Dewey Nielsen on Fb/instagram/google, they have some very good stuff out there for free and in seminars.

Josh, thanks a bunch. I had a video of his from years ago that probably dates me a bit. I think it might have even been a Beta tape. lol. Thanks to you I found an updated version of his book.

    Cheers.

Google or search youtube for "ballet stretching". Us ballerinas are some of the most flexible folks you'll ever meet. :D One of many out there: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxb516Ptfzw&spfreload=10"]Stretches To Improve Flexibility - 8 Minute Basic Dance & Ballet Stretch Exercise Routine - YouTube[/ame]

Matvei, you'll get no argument from me about ballerinas being some of the most flexible people. However, I was looking specifically for some stretching geared toward martial arts. However, I will do a search on youtube as you suggested.

    Cheers,
