Yeah up for the age category thing.

So at 44 I can quite literally do some press ups. HaHa.

Seriously get it on video. Photo's don't last forever. I know I could probably get this restored, but to have it in film would be awesome.
Elevated V-Sit ups on fingertips. I used to be able to hold this position.

Check the Kung Fu slippers, what was I thinking?

hahahha!!! Bad ass! Yeah man life get's in the way of training often. That's why it takes more dedication and motivation than ever. Though mind you... that's no excuse for the Kung Fu slippers! :)

On at tech note.. that would dead easy to scan and retouch that photo and have it output to film. Seriously.. about a 30 min. worth of work if that.

Ok here's a new movement for some of you... if you've ever trained on a TRX or any form of suspension training the movement will be familiar. I like this one a lot... I wreck people with it all the time. I have a feeling that Fishy is going to hit this one with no delay!

Nice work Slip, again. Fish if you do these we want two videos.

    The first one copying Slip.

The second one doing a shoulder press on the second half of the movement (after the crunch).

missed ROM in the crunch segment. i'll need to try it with a stronger resistance band (using a lower surface for my hands is currently not workable (damn me and my 5 feet from hell :D). as it stands, no way in hell i'm going to be able to do them as t-pressups :p

also i have a big ass

HaHa, knew you would not be able to resist it. Nice one Fish, close grip press ups too.

You really should win an award at the end or the year. Not sure what for, maybe we should invent something.

only 2 sets each side, and i need to hit the core exercises, ASAP

and i REALLY need a stronger resistance band. question: which are stronger? tube bands or pilates-type "flat" bands?

bought a proper resistance band (actually i got it about half an hour after filming the last clip), just filmed myself doing a not-so-fail try at slip line drills.

it's a bit garbled at the beginning, but it's all the same so it's no big loss.

you can probably tell i do karate by the crap body movement and the low hands :D

Fish: Those slipping drills with the bo - made me smile. Reminded me of when I was 18 and I used to tie two brooms to my punch bag and either slip or check the broom as the bag reacted to my hits. :)

Simon S: Nice. Can't add anything to the advice given here. But hey, nice garage/shed - I'm jealous.

Flaming: Amazing combination of leg strength and balance.

Slip: Awesome stuff. I think the atomic press ups are particularly cool.

    Fantastic thread. Really inspiring.

I have no excuses not to train. The shed is 16ft x 8ft. It has a padded floor, full light and power, an alarm system, mirrors. Note the tape on the floor for footwork drills.
I also have the punch bag, floor to ceiling ball, a maize ball, full range of resistance bands all available at the bottom of the garden. It is a bit low to twirl an eskrima stick but a great place to teach private students.

Good stuff bro. I've not done pistols in ages. And when I did do them I only did them when perched atop a set of parrellel bars. So that my legs have the clearance because I'm off the ground makes them no doubt easier. But I'll have to give them a go now! Cheers for the post!

Slips critique of: Fish doing slip line drills
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avrYOQsln7M"]YouTube- slip-line drills with less fail[/ame]

Ok interesting. One of the things I try to have people do on the slip line drills is to slip as tight as possible. Meaning that you want your head to clear the slip line and go either side by a pretty narrow margin. The reason for this is the larger the slip... the slower the recovery. So if you look at the way boxers use slip line drills... they are tight and just bob and weave very close to the line. Even in my vid I'm a bit looser than what most straight ahead boxers might do. The theory goes that if you slip way to the outside... you then are not in the best postion to land a shot and have to recover that space... which takes time for you to get set and gives your opponent time to get set.

Also the slip line should be roughly 15 or so feet. You want to be able to work the drills up and down the slip line. Punching moving forward and punching on the back foot as well. I will go forward punching and slipping and then when I get to the end I spin off the line and punch and come right around move back down the line in the opposite direction. I can't remember if I show it in the vid like that. I will try to shoot another vid working the finer points of the slip line. I've realized what I run people through can sometimes be more difficlut to translate right onto a vid clip as I'm doing the drill as opposed to coaching the drill. So ideally I'd like to make them more of an instructional and less just eyecandy of me doing the drill.

I'd say Fishy you want to get outdoors and get this set up. Your space looks way to cramped to do this drill quite right. Also get that mop of hair under control. Hard to see what's going with your hair flailinng around. :p That's not hating... as for most of my life I had a huge beard and hair way down past my waist! So get it under control and it'll be easier to critique your vid because I can see what you are doing with your head and shoulders.

Also... I realized right away you are not from a boxing background. So to that end I can't really critique the punching or karate because it's so different from my background in Muay Thai and boxing. I don't know if the slip line drills have much carry over to karate. My first guess would be no. But it's a good question... not so sure how karate differs from kickboxinng - lots of the karate derived kickboxers had lots of head movement going on. But when I see the more traditonal karate I don't see any of it. One key point for a boxer in practicing the slip line drills is the head movement. In the boxing game you don't want your head square on your shoulders at all. You need that movement in order to be hard to hit against boxers who have accuracy and high work rates.

    Ok hope that's helpful.

Slip's critique of Fish's Atomic Press up variation - Atomic + the added T:
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw8ofmRO2lY"]YouTube- a-T-omic pushups :)[/ame]

Ok... cool. Like the variation with the T. Killer. The only thing I'd say... the band your using makes them different than on a TRX or a more rigid type of suspension. I'll have to give it a try. You look like you are levitating in the vid because of that soft wobble the band gives. lol. Man levitates while trying press up variation. Scientists stumped! :p

Overall I think they look good. I think you will find the movement more satisfying if you did them with something rigid. Good on you for not letting cramped space stop you from workinng out... but try to get these going outdoors and you'll see what I mean. There's almost always a park with swings in any city. Or a schoolyard with swings that you can try these out on. I'm going to see how the T works tomorrow and will post up a vid!

    and to answer your question:
You want to find a good quality band for your dynamic exercises. The reason being is the last thing you want is a band snapping while you are working your pile driver movement at full go. You'd get injured. Seriously the bands get put under enormous load so you really want some quality gear. Ideally it's something that is rated. So you know approx what the amount of resistance is... that gives a basesline for when you do the same movement on a weighted stack or some other bit of kit. Also if you know the approx. resistance you can progress to harder resistances. I'd suggest highly that you use a band like a Slastix band or a Perform Better band... the TWIST bands used by Peter Twist are excellent bit of kit as well. This link here has tons of stuff that works well:

    http://www.performbetter.com/catalo...p_Q_PageID_E_53_A_PageName_E_LandingPageBands

Ok hope that answers some questions. Good thing about me doing a critique is that it also creates a lot of questions for me on how I'm coachng the movement in the forum environment as opposed real life. Good stuff that. Also makes me start thinking about carry over to other MA's besides boxing and Muay Thai. That's a good thing to.

Slip, what is nice about this thread is the time taken (especially by you) to post quality critisism on technique. It seems to have a much more personal feel than other threads on MAP.

I did a quick video on lunges I will post soon.
