Anyone know why aikido is listed in reverse on the Yoshinkan logo?

They list the symbols correctly (ai-ki-do) in all of their documentation and literature but have it do-ki-ai on the logo.

Maybe because it has been printed on the reverse

I thought about that at first, but if that was the case the characters themselves would be reversed which is not the case.

koyo Passed away, but always remembered. RIP.

The Japanese wrote verically and from right to left.Often when something is written horizontally it is still read from right to left.

KOYO IS RIGHT. Decades ago, Japanese and Chinese changed to write horizontally from left to right because of the culture influence from western countries. Some people and artist still keep this habit. It is just like some of your people use very old English in very formal documents at present.

Yes, that's exactly right. It's an older form of writing, but it is still used in Japanese. Prior to WW2, a good number of text books and signs were written in that particular manner. As Arctos has stated, with the influence of Western culture in to Japanese life, western writing styles were developed.

Today, Japanese can be written vertically & horizontally from right to left and vertically & horizontally from left to right.

Some of my older pre-WW2 Japanese texts are written vertically from right to left.

If I am not mistaken, the kanji say: "Aikido Yoshinkan Honbu Dojo"
