Evening all I need some 2x1m martial arts mats, 30mm thick, but I would really like them in grey. I can find a number of online sources for blue, red etc, but none for grey. So, 2 questions: 1. Has anyone used a particular supplier for mats and want to recommend them? 2. Has anyone seen grey ones for sale? Cheers all! Mitch
Dont know if its any help, but would ones supplied to schools have your fancy? If so i could ask my parent if they know where they get their mats for that type of thing.
Not sure about the UK but here schools get gymnastics mats, which are softer then Tatami mats. Too soft actually. The feet sink in a bit. But again: Might be different in the UK.
it's much the same for UK schools. in judo clubs we often used those mats,as the clubs were based in a school, but not ideal for a good enough set up if you cannot get anything more appropriate.
Here most clubs, that aren't private schools, are based in schools too, never mind if it's Judo, Karate or whatever. Due to our... I just call it "club policy"/ "registered association policy", because I don't know the proper word, those clubs get some supports and especially Judo classes can afford proper mats that way. Karate, for example, seems to be difficult on these mats, but I guess most Karate clubs train on the normal floor, now that I think about it (I'm spoiled, we have mats at our dojo where I do Karate, that just stay there). But I am biased: I don't like gymnastic mats for MA anyway
Its for primary schools and i have not been to one in many years so i wouldnt know. My parent kind of prders things in that department. The supplier might have mats to the ones you are looking for, will ask anyway.
An amazon search of grey judo mat brought the gray ones up, cannons do have an amazon store, but generally the website is cheaper.
I've done sanda/kickboxing on those mats, and they are frustrating compared to something more stable, plus having to reset them on every stop. Judo footwork is more static so it's not as bad - regardless it's better to get quality mats like you mentioned.
