The knife/blade, in various forms has to be one of the most used tools, and even with masses of current technology you still need it for daily tasks. ... and definitely deodorant!
Without blades we wouldn't have fire, industry, technology... blades are Prometheus, and they are older than homo sapiens. For those who extol the virtues of deodorant: it is just a way to lie about not washing enough! I could live without flushing toilets, compost loos are fine if you know how to maintain them properly. Don't think I would like living without bog roll though... maybe make one of those Roman bum-wiping sticks?
Surely we would of had to of been able to make fire before we could make metal blades, because we use fire to make metal. If say the "scientific process" is the most important invention, as without this, we'd still be earth bound, with no way to share pictures of cats and argue with strangers whilst we're pretending to work.....
Scientific method isnt an invention though - its a polished version of animal instinct. In fact its almost freestyle pavlovian response For me it has to be the wheel in all its many guises - that gave us transport, pulleys, industry etc Close second is the Super Nintendo...
List i am compiling now, some would be the same: The knife/manual tools, civil engineering,Agriculture and medicine. However, medicine has been around as long as humans have, both types deserve a mention. Oh and boots. (technically some of these are notinventionss just utilization of resources, like usuing berries to paint, you havent invented pain you just smushed up a black berry and used it to paint something)
But i mean, how do you make the thinsg needed for modern plumbing and sanitation without mettalergy and the ivnention of news metals and alloys?
Wait, revision, isnt oversunderwearrwear for the caped crusaders the best invention ever made? Or spandex? No one here can do their cool action reels without spandex.
A/C alternator: It would be a very different world without the discovery of producing and distributing alternating current, something most people take for granted. 3D Printer: Still a new technology but will provide massive benefits for space travel (Producing needed parts) and surgery. Coffee: Without the genius who invented this I would not have survived my shift today.....
Should we do a separate list for "inventions" vs "discoveries'? Semantics aside one already exists waiting to be found - penicillin and vaccines would be examples
