You should search for the truth. Seek the truth and ask God to reveal it to you.

I am not completely against that thought, but I caution you that it has significant shortcomings that you must eventually address. Which flavor of ice cream would you propose here? Or do like the taste of Catholic, or maybe JW? Or are you going all LDS? I'm thinking you're favoring LDS, but I hope you see the issue.

Behold, I would exhort you that when you read these things, if it be wisdom in God that you should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord has been to the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down to the time you should receive these things and ponder it in your heart.
And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye should ask God the Eternal Father in the name of Christ, if these things are not true, and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth unto you by the power of the Holy Ghost.
And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.
    Moroni 10: 3-5

There are a lot of saints over the last 20 centuries (the 100’s, the 200’s, the 300’s, the 400’s, and so up to the 2000's) who did that and received an answer different than yours.

That's essentially the same test put forth by Moslems, also; e.g., Sura 2:23-24. The argument goes like this: No human could have written the Koran. No human has ever written anything to match the Koran. Therefore, it must be from God. The proof of this is to read the Koran yourself.

I would consider long and hard the challenges in Wikipedia's article before I paraded the Book of Mormon as a history text. The BOM is something that I have looked into at different times over the years, but it never once seemed to be a reliable book.

It's hilarious that there was a mayan fad in the 19th century that spurred a huge trade in counterfeit artifacts and newspaper stories. Hmmm, Amazingly enough around the same time a "non-scholar" writes a American Jesus book I wonder what popular culture elements he decided to include to make it sellable.

    The Bear.

Thor, my god carries a hammer. Your god was nailed to a cross. Any questions?

I love that quote and it is so hard to work into your everyday conversations.

Yes: in what sense is Thor your God? The vikings gave up their pagan religion in favour of Christianity over a thousand years ago.

Heh. I just can't get over there being a book of Moroni. :)

As to the quote - where exactly has the $deity been merciful in the slightest to the children of men? If there is any deity, he's been about as merciful as we are with lab rats - not necessarily cruel, but certainly not demonstrating any sympathy.

Politics only - the worship of Norse deities continued alongside, as did the Celtic traditions in the UK.

The "old ways" are still there and some still practice them

I am an atheistic Buddhist. Thor is my god on those occasions when I need a god/higher power. It isn't often and we have an understanding. Besides, when I want a god I want him to be a badass not some wimp. He goes along with this because I was a member of the US Marine Corps. He likes Marines. Luckily I don't need to channel my inner Marine very often.

    K?

I really don't know. I saw it on a t-shirt of all things.

You never know where you might find wisdom.

It was a kind of Pagan "catchphrase" from a few years ago - a sort of "pagan pride" type thing.

As pagans became more socially acceptable it was a way of asserting identity....quite childish really in many respects, but not without an element of humour

That was dad, not JR. Dad could be a badass but I'm not into those creator gods. I don't need gods who demand to be worshiped. Actually I don't need gods at all but Thor is cool.

You mean like playing as druids at Stonehenge?

Excuse me while I chuckle quietly to myself. ;)

Do not anger Thor. You won't like him when he is angry.
