I think it is ridiculous that the airlines ARE allowed to overbook. I hope this event causes this to be looked at and made illegal.

You pay for a flight, you should not be able to be kicked off because the airlines are allowed to overbook.

That policy seems insane and ridiculous to me.

You aren't allowed to sell extra seats for concerts that have reserved seating. Or most other places where you buy something. I just don't get it.

Suddenly I'm glad I'm working that day lol.

Its not a good look when aviation authority security wore "police" on their backs. I don't know what their uniform orders are like over there but its not a good look in any way at all.

Lifting the body in a confined space (such as a plane aisle) probably not a effective way. Dragging his body was probably the best way during a sandbagging but once again...not a good look.

The whole incident is stupid and spiralled out of control and a series of poor decisions is going to equal a payday for someone.

The Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is guarded by actual city police officers. The infamous LAPD actually has 3 divisions: airports, the harbor, and the street cops who always make the news. (I know because I looked into a job with them a few years back.) This being Chicago, another very large city with a very busy airport, I assumed the "airport security" were Chicago police officers, but now some news reports suggest otherwise, so I don't really know.

This disaster keeps on giving. I'm sorry the guy got beat up, but the meme and funny videos provided have been amazing for the last few days. UA stock has collapsed by a lot because of this.

Just thinking... would all the spinning work in an plane aisle?

I've flown on UA before. Heard horror stories but was fine. LAX was a different story, I've done a lot of travelling and I've never been bullied about and herded like cattle before (and thats even comparing it to Beijing!)

Yeah in Heathrow and other UK airports, the 1st port of call is Airport security who are a private hire company. The ultimate last resort would be the Metropolitan Police who covers Heathrow/Stanstead etc because they are armed.

Just thinking if Airport security in this particular case/state are part of the "Police family". But its hard to tell since a lot of American security companies like to dress up their staff in Police like gear.

Regardless. $800mil loss of value to the airline. I mostly feel sorry for the staff who were no where near this be affected because thats definately a job loser with that kind of market crash.

Ive flown transatlantic with UA twice, both times the service was poor, the drinks very very limited, (two maximum) and no further drinks at all were available.

Now thats what I call a drinking problem!

Maybe in first class? I'm fairly certain that I'd have to spin very high on my back, almost on my shoulders, to do that in a coach aisle.

Really? I flew business class on UA and got lots of champagne! :) (That was in, oh, I think 2009.)

Edit: I don't mean to be cheerleading for UA. I realized after I posted that it might have sounded that way. No.

I think the airline was going along the right lines by offering money for people to volunteer....you know...voluntarily.
They should have kept offering money until they had enough people say yes.
Now everyone knows now that they can sit tight while an airplane company offers more money in order to avoid this idiocy again.

it shouldn't take any space laterally at all, apart from the inverted shot which they said is first class only!

I know! They totally blew it! Penny wise but pound foolish! Rather than spend a thousand or so per seat and keep the policy largely a secret, they're now going to have to undersell every flight to be sure that they never have to bump anyone, because the first time they have to bump someone -- hey, I want a check for $10,000 and $300 in airport meal vouchers before I'll think about giving up my one seat.

Really? Because it looks to me as though head-butt have to trade places no matter which take-down you do, and that's a 180-degree spin in the horizontal plane. :dunno:

(Aside: I understand that the video was made in humor, but I really do like and appreciate the smoothness of the demos.)

The spin is on the spot, and if the space is wide enough to stand in, it should be wide enough for your shoulders, as long as your central.

Also IThink its the first time GA has said inverting is good for SD!

I bet ryan hall will never get bumped now!
