I have had the fortune to meet and talk with a great martial artist who after a lifetime of training in aikido has added extensive training in systema. I am going to start training with him and Out of curiosity was wondering whether anyone had any experience of this synthesis, or any comments on the history of the two systems coming together?
chicago aikikai used to teach mostly aikido, but also systema. sadly, kevin choate sensei passed away recently at 58 years old. and i don't think anyone is teaching systema at the dojo anymore, except for the occasional seminar. i trained there for a bit. ended up going back to the midwest aikido center because i wanted a more mainline curriculum. http://www.chicagoaikikai.org/
