What do you think of using morote gari in self defense

    Depends largely on the situation.
If a bigger guy comes rushing at you, then yes. I think morote-gari could be useful for a quick takedown. But, there-in lies the problem. What after that? You are in the range of his fists, with his legs wrapped around you.
Granted, he will be out of breath because of the fall unless he knows how to fall properly. (in that case he might also have an concussion)

Personally I think any technique can be useful. But not in every situation, and not for everyone. It depends on so many factors that nobody can give you an "ultimate-technique" which will have guaranteed results.

Bah, again with all this chit-chat and no clear answer :p
Answer is: Yes, it could be useful in some cases.

Like all throws only if all the preconditions were right- which means its an unlikely one.

These preconditions would be- He is outstriking you, you cannot get away and are at risk of being knocked out/ debilitated, you know how to execute the throw well and land in shiho side control (Not guard between his legs), you know how to execute it so he is slamed hard to take advantage of concrete, you are confident of your ability on the ground, the usual risks of being on the ground eg. being stomped by bystanders etc are absent from the situation.
