Sounds like a JKD type of school. Are you considering switching? This guy teaches in Austin and I am going to check him out tomorrow. If that school was in Austin, I would be very interested.
No more so I'm interested in it for Kali. Mainly my weekend was dampened by some drama involving a knife and it damn near piercing my left pec. So my interest in a weapons system has increased exponentially

Most places don't do this - they more interested in the martial side and forget the spiritual/philosphical (sp?) side of martial arts.
