Womens Blackbelt Sparring in comps

Just wondered if i could have any advice, im a 2nd Dan, and love sparring ive been contemplating taking part in a sparring competition. However im also going to have to go in at over 16s now. What ive seen of womens sparrings looked more like cat fighting, which looks terrifiing and haveing done no competitions before I don't really know what im getting myself in for. is it a good idea to compete for the first time a my grade, and does ne one have ne advice for me??
