I've heard three different translations of this:
    Gauntlet
    Wrist
Minor hand (as in 'kote gaeshi' meaning 'minor twist of the hand')

Forgeting the first one, is either of the others correct/incorrect?

All correct, depending on the context in which they are used.

    Kote in kendo = gauntlet.
    Kote in aikido = wrist

Japanese language is 2nd only to english in its difficulty!

Te = hand or wrist, in the context of aikido. I was told it more properly means hand. Example: te katana = sword hand.
kote = wrist, in the context of aikido.
