Cognitive dissonance is a powerful thing, as is the search for social proof. Illustrated best by the way that doomsday cults tend to react when doomsday fails to occur.

I don't know. As long as the republicans are like christian that they believe their God is the only true God that all other religions are evil, I can't see any changing in the republican party. Even today, some republican still think that they should not give up their faith and compromise.

When Latino pupulation increase in Texas and Texas becomes a blue state, I just don't see any future for the republican party.

The irony being that when the BBC did an international poll, the only country supporting Romney was Pakistan.

The way I look at these issues is sometimes quite simple. If you pay in, you're entitled to get something out of it. I think some form of financial security be it a pension, health care or whatever is the least you should demand.

If $6 billion is spent on an election campaign while universal health care is such a contentious issue. There's something deeply wrong with the society. Especially since the Red Cross are begging for donations to help Americans get back on their feet.

Oh man, tell me about it...wasn't SS suppose to be used for retirement? It's been pillaged by the government to the point that there is no way for it to remain solvent. If it hadn't have been robbed to support those who never have put into it it would actually have been a good program. There would not be a need to raise the income requirement, it would be growing right now on it's own. Another example government mismanagement. It should have been privatized, as should the postal service.

At least! Millions from superpacs, millions in Ohio alone just in advertisements. Want to balance the budget tax the heck out of political campaign funds and income.

Agree on that $6 billion wasted money. Not sure about the donation to Red Cross.

Think Before You Donate I didn't know this........

THINK BEFORE YOU DONATE SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
    BEFORE YOU MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS:
As you open your pockets to do a good thing and make yourself feel good,
please keep the following facts in mind:
    ----------------------------
    The American Red Cross
President and CEO Marsha J. Evans' salary for the year was $651,957 plus expenses

    MARCH OF DIMES
It is called the March of Dimes because only a dime for every 1 dollar is given to the needy.

    GOODWILL
CEO and owner Mark Curran profits $2.3 million a year.
Goodwill is a very catchy name for his business. You donate to his business and then he sells the items for PROFIT.
He pays nothing for his products and pays his workers minimum wage! Nice Guy.
$0.00 goes to help anyone! Stop giving to this man.

Most American Democrats are Christian too. Latinos are overwhelmingly Christian. I'm not a Christian--I'm a lapsed Jew--but I don't think you can blame a religion for the Republicans' loss.

    Not cool dude.

No but you can blame it for (as a party) their mindset, intolerance, aversion to compromise, aversion to changing their point of view, and fir some reason the need to try blending church and state etc etc. Whereas the Democrats don't try to force religion on the country, seem open to justifiable compromises and so on. They may be religious but they don't have the evangelical, us and them, with us or against us, socialism = communism, aversion to science, scare tactics kind of deal.

Yeah we've seen that with the constant warfare, not converting to the metric system, part of the population thinking it's still democracy versus the commie pinkos and that bridging the gal between church and state is a good idea. Not to mention all the other things...

It's like a portion of the US got frozen in time mentally. Part of it is in the dark ages with the church and part of it is in the cold war.

You can ignore what's going on around you but please do not imply that all Americans are so intellectually cowardly as to only consider that which comes directly from their own comfort zone. Agree with the rest of the world or don't but to not only fail but outright refuse to consider how those around you will respond to your actions is shortsighted at the very best.

I certainly care what the rest of the globe thinks. The world is full of potential threats and boons at every scale and it takes a shrewd individual to navigate this. Those who refuse to set their tribalistic attitudes aside have not and will not be able to plot a feasible course.

    I couldn't agree more.

It's a common fault of English people to think like we exist in a sort of bubble where the rest of the world doesn't affect us - like an ostrich burying it's head in the sand.

Personally I don't think that Ameriacsn as a whole are as bad as English people in this respect, but I can see that there is a tendancy amongst many to want the rest of the world to just 'go away'. But isolationism isn't really an option in an increasingly globalised world. Can you imagine all those American multinational corporations standing for a policy of isolationism? That horse bolted years ago.
