How do you mean not raise the knee? I remember being taught in the tiny bit of wadoryu i done years ago to form the kick further back than the shotokan i now do , but that's it , we lift the knee in all kicks in shotokan
Raising of the knee to execute any kick is essential basics in any karate, so I was taught that way and continue to teach it that way. If you don't raise your knee, then the kick is telegraphed, and generally slower to execute. Just my 2 cents, oh and I've trained in Shotokan too, and we raised our knee when kicking
My sensei got kicked in the nads thursday because his opponent didnt bend his knee and just brought it up so therefore he couldn't place the kick...he wasn't cheerful. The moral of the story is bend your knee. This thread is olddddd.
