They get together in the various locations and do it similar to the PI guys, Cool... Any Class, like in a room or at an inside location, or are they outside, weather not being like PI, seems it would not be conducive to good conditions.

Just reading the site of Breen.

The first name of Neil is who I'd go with, has a good amount of qualification I'd say. Not that all are not good but he is my pick. Can anyone mention more about this person?

I think they meant 'Black Eagle Eskrima' not 'Black Eagle Society'.

Black Eagle Society only get together for meets in various locations but Black Eagle Eskrima is actually a style with a permanent location.

As far as I am aware they are still in or around the London area at the London School of Martial Arts.

I think the original question states that he already does JKD but wants to also find an FMA club that perhaps specialises.

However if you mean Neil McLeod on Bob Breens site, then yes he is a good JKD & Kali instructor based in Ayesbury. He has trained in the Philippines and America over the years, is a member of the Black Eagle Society (not the style) who got involved quite early on in it's formation, he was also 2 times WEKAF World Champion and won numerous European and British titles and has also done well in MMA and Muay Thai bouts too. A good all rounder and an old friend of mine and Pat's and has recently joined the British Council of Kali Eskrima Arnis Instructors and will be teaching the Inosanto Lacoste blend of Kali at this years FMA Festival along side 10 other high ranking FMA instructors from various other styles. A good opportunity to get contacts in FMA for your local areas.

There are lots of FMA clubs in and around London, Hertfordshire etc. Would you have a paticular style or list of styles in mind? And I will try to get some contact details for you.

Feel free to PM me if you prefer.

    Love Lucy

    thanks lucy

i thoroughly enjoy all the aspects of FMA and would be intersted in any good club (i am soon about to check out a concepts club by the way)- i have to say that stick fighting competitions dont really interest me that much and am more interested in the interplay beweens weapons and empty hand

thanks for your help in advance

I'll say you are on the right road, those DBMA's can get nasty. I don't think it is a good deal to get injured anymore. At one time I was all for it. But not for fun, for real.
But now it seems that some are liking to play the game of hurt and laugh. To much of that is not good.

I have seen to many injured for life. Pretty dumb if you ask me, unless you are doing it for a living and have good insurance and all.

Sorry BGile..I don't quite understand what you are talking about here...Who said that DBMA=Gatherings(DB Stick Fighting)..as this is the impression I'm getting from what you are saying in your post.
DBMA is a well structured system and studying it doesn't necessarily mean that you have take part in any of the Gatherings...
I think it is very important to do more researches in what DBMA really is before you say "those DBMA's can get nasty"...

    Regards,

    Catman

I've researched it and seen the DVD's, they get injured pretty often. That to me is sort of "nasty" since it is the braincage we are talking about much of the time.

I have set in a vehicle and watched them train in the parks also, it is injury time I have witnessed. Getting ready for the event and practicing and getting injured, happens quite a bit.

I don't know if its a bit far out for you, but John Harvey teaches in Luton on a Tuesday night, and we do some empty hands stuff fairly regularly, and we do knife every week. If you can't make the weekday class, we run monthly sunday classes that last four hours (though these are suspended for a while as John is coaching the British stickfighting team for the European Championships for the next couple of months)

Let me know if you want more details

    hi neil

just tried to PM but the system will not allow me to send it. i have checked out the website and luton isnt too bad to get to. although midweek can be difficult due to my work-but i will try.

i have just had a brief look at the website(good old google) and what just wondering as to the class structure which you have just eluded to. i understand that whilst there is a good reputation with competition, do you focus on the stick, knife and empty hand an an equal basis or is one of favoured?

do you cover dumog/manipulation for example?

many thanks for all you help in advance

I've emptied my mailbox, it wasn't full but you can try again.

Our class structure is fairly freeform, with beginners we tend to go predominantly with the single stick work as we find it gives them a good template to advance with, we also do double stick, stick and knife, knife, locks throws takedowns etc, with the weapon and empty handed, we do knife work every week, and at the sunday sessions we tend to cover things that we don't normally do on the weekday classes, such as staff (we have a much bigger hall on the weekends ).

I know that the website tends to give the impression that we focus a lot on the armour, and it is a grading requirement , but we leave it to the individual to decide if its something they would like to pursue in a tournament setting, personally I prefer the more traditional side and only rarely put the armour on, give me something sharp and pointy any day.

Have you done any FMA ? as we have a wide range of abilities at our club, so we should be able to find you a training partner without much problem, and if we have any new guys in I tend to take them through the first session to get them up to speed on our styles numbering system etc
