So I found out a training partner I rolled with last night has Staph infection. About 15 hours have passed so far. I showered once I got home and changed my clothes too. Just found out this morning via social media he has it. So far I haven't noticed anything, and don't feel any different. I also happen to be on an antibiotics regiment for tonsillitis right now. (Amox) So for the unlucky few who have had staph before, how long does it take to show up? I have my finals this week and absolutely can not miss them.
Did he know last night? Incubation period is a few days to a couple of weeks normally, but largely depends on several factors.
A lot of infections can be 'staph', some serious, but most arnt. Is it "MRSA staph"? Or something else? Is he an inpatient or did he just go to the emergency room to get abx?
http://dermnetnz.mobify.me/bacterial/staphylococci.html This is a good overview. loads of people say 'staph' when really its just impertigo which is still a form of staph, but not the flesh eating kind which requires iv abx etc.
Ive seen necrotising fasciitis, a few times if that counts! Impertigo is generally self limiting, (not always of course!)
I picked up a staph infection from MMA and it was a gradual thing, a week maybe, before I realised something was wrong. I had this big angry squishy thing on my leg, but, being a guy and an idiot I didn't get myself off to the GP. The thing burst in the shower and a whole mess of crap fell out. It didn't look great so I went to the GP. Anyway, I'm now left with a nice round, black scar on my leg.
Somewhat peripheral advice... If you can get it where you live, I had a doctor suggest Hibiclens when I had staph. Says it's like a surgical pre wash soap. You can shower in it and it's available OTC where I live. Might be good as post-rolling wash. I don't use it often but I keep it for when I handle a particularly nasty rando at work. Haven't gotten any skin infections yet.
Just a quick reminder in case there are cats in the house: Keep it away from them, it (tea tree oil and the like) poisons them.
Your bodies natural flora act as part of its defenses to infections, if you regularly use anti bacterial/fungal soaps, it can make your more susceptible to infection. hibiscrub post exposure is a great idea though. If you cant get that, detol make a soap that pretty good too.
As Deadpool says, it kills off your natural skin flora which is your first line of defence against infection.
https://mrticklebjj.wordpress.com/2013/04/01/kill-ringworm-staph-etc-easily/ Spot on! Plus defence soap hasnt even got good anti bacterial properties. Iirc vosene (mmm coal tar) and head and shoulders has got better anti fungal and bacterial properties. .
Yeah I figured as much. I'll just stick to my girlfriend's Dove, which has the added benefit making my skin so smooth that I can slip out of submissions like a silky, sexy eel. YMMV
Lol I too use dove. My wife doesn't like the smell of most soaps, so she only stocks dove cucumber, and doesn't like when I use anything else.
