Full contact would be in a boxing ring usually, with similar rules to boxing except that kicks are allowed. Protective equipment such as shin pads and foot pads may be used depending on the organising body. Light contact/continuous kickboxing is based more on point fighting/technique, where a knockout might actually be deemed as excessive contact. It's frequently performed on matted 'areas' rather than a ring.
