Hey everyone Just a few quick questions on the subject of Tai Chi Chuan. 1. Is it a martial art or a means of maintaining good health? 2.If it is a martial art, how effective is it? 3.How street effective would it be compared to say ju jitsu or wing chun? Thank you James
Hi James 1. Both 2. As effective as the person training in it, their mindset and the way they train. 3. It's the person not the art. I think the answer you're looking for is that it is an art equal to all the others in effectiveness if the practitioner trains that way.
IMO Taiji is a martial art full stop - any health benefits are a bonus. I personally don't rate Taiji as a pure health art. There are many more efficient and effective systems if health is your goal (get a good personal trainer).
Its either 1/ a MA system that has a benefit or 2/ a health system offering minimal benefit to the already fit, and no MA carry over Define effective....its not the system, its the way you train. Again, its the way you train, but to generalise..even though I feel that both WC and JJJ train very poorly for the street, you would be better trained for 'fighting' in 90% of WC or JJJ schools than at any TCC club you are likely to walk into.
I deliberately didn't specify any particular club or group, but I am sure that we on this board can at least agree that if you walk into a random tcc club the chances are that it will not address 'self defence' as well as the majority of jj or wc (even with the given that WC and most JJJ dot do self defence very well). This is a separate argument to the fact that we all individually believe that we are the 1% with the real tcc (oh, and I get out alot, where as you have a friend who used to be a bouncer who gets out a bit and sometimes tells you what its like :woo: )
The braille feature for MAP isn't that good, so bear with me. What's all the styles required for fighting? Why doesn't Tai Chi Chuan cover them over just a fundamental level?
yeah but i cant log in with that username so i have to use this new one. I think tai chi chuan is a beautiful disapline a good base but u need to add other styles such as greco wrestling, jujitsu, boxing, kickboxing
Someone elses experience and knowledge? Someone who is 5-11-0 in MMA at that....even in his san shou days Sami was way to happy just to eat big head shots
