Just wondering what everyone's doing for St George's day tomorrow? Me, I'm looking forward to a good stomach-lining, intestine-bloating meal such as fish'n'chips, or Steak and Kidney pie whilst supping a cool ale. Hurrah! St George for England, let's see a bank holiday too!
I'm not training and not going out, in fact I will probably be so busy at work that i will even forget that St Georges day exists.
One of my bands is playing a charity St Georges do tonight, should be a good night. We tend to donwplay it here don't we, which isn't neccesarily a bad thing, but it can be donwplayed too much too! How long before someone says "but St George wasn't even English" lol..... Happy St Georges Day! Rob
I used to like St Georges day when I was in the Army, parade, church then pub. No work got done and they did it for St Paddy's too.
Go that far back in history who was English? I have Irish, Flemish, French/Norman, Scottish, Jewish, Northumbrian and Tink ancestors that I know of. Who minds a little bit of Shemite in the family really?
There was a petition (and probably still is) a few years ago to make St. Edmund the Patron St. of England. An English king, lived in England, buried in England, and probably did not slaughter so many innocent people either. Tonight I had a restful evening. No training. Just some fried eggs...
As an Englishman through and through, I celebrated this, most English of holidays, in the most typically English way: I forgot all about it.
Haha, more than English, I'm Welsh. So I am ignoring it too. Unfortunately our annual dinner is based around St. George, with flags and everything. So the two Welsh members of our club are taking a flag with us too. Should be interesting...
Oh come on, it's a bit churlish to not celebrate St.George's day just because we invaded you in the middle ages (or possibly 'we' invaded 'us'. I'm a bit confused on this issue.) I think what this world needs is more holidays- the more spurious the excuse, religious or not, the better. WHY IS ST.GEORGE'S DAY NOT A HOLIDAY?
