You can still get Samsung S3 Mini as well for about £100-£110. Great wee phone. Worth a look.
Just to give you an idea of why minis are bad.
You get better specs on a cheaper Moto G, better screen, splash proof upto one metre of water for 30 mins, quad core quality, much better screen. Better battery.
Even if the specs were identical I would still go with a Moto G why? Because Samsungs touchwizz is horrible compared to stock used in Moto G, Nexus devices and LGs out of the mainstream brands Samsung have the worst software, which isn't too much of an issue on flagship models, but is horrendous for performance, lag, battery on lower end phones.
Frodo I would recommend YouTube searching phone vs phone or reviews on specific models. Also pop into car phone warehouse or any phone shop on the high street and have a play around. But dint buy in the high street or listen to their sales people. They are not as well trained as call centre staff and will keep telling you about features and benefits.
Oops, one of the drawbacks on a smart phone I dint know how I just double posted so weirdly (I messed up on pasting the link) but that's mainly due to my choice of Android keyboard.
I'm geeky enough to have already started doing the online comparisons - that's what led me to the Moto range! I nipped into Virgin the other day and the muppet there tried to sell me broadband, a new phone line and a TV package when all I'd asked him about was the stupid phone - I hate pushy sales people! GRRRRR! I went back the day after and spoke to someone else who actually recommended getting a phone somewhere other than them and just getting my sim card changed to a micro card.
Phone wise I go Android any day of the week. I'm a bit of a Samsung Fanboy having bought into a range of Galaxy phones (Galaxy S, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 3). Like everyone else I prefer Android as it's so versatile and mod friendly - I can mess around with different launchers, install Apps from "other sources" other than Google Play.
I'm currently waiting to see if the Note 5 will get a European release, if not I'm after a Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, maybe...
That said, my brother swears by Windows phones, but I have Windows 10 on one of my tablets (yes one of my tablets as I'm greedy) and I'm not convinced I like it...
Depends what you want it for, I went with windows Nokia phones because comparatively they are cheap, have free downloadable satnav you can use off line, good free music service and excel/word so I can keep my workout log in one place, I'm not into gaming or apps so the smallish selection of apps doesn't bother me, and security seems better than on android
I phones are for the plug and play folks. They are super nice but limited to what you can do. They steal your soul. Windows is as well to a point, plus there is not an app market so to speak. Android gets you stuck with Google and they will steal your soul as well.
That being said galaxy s5 active is the last of the good galaxy line. The s4 active is very tough water resistant (jumped in pool no I'll effect) and the price should be peanuts now. I would get the s5 active if virgin supports it and the price is right.
Have we reached a conclusion, as I am going to buy Mrs S a new phone tomorrow?
Similar budget as Frodocious, and it'll be a non contract, pay as you go phone.
Doesn't have to have loads of gadgets, just be reliable.
I'm probably going to go with either the Motorola Moto E or Moto G. I haven't decided 100% which, yet.
How about 2 yoghurt pots and a piece of string?
If you need to make a long distance phone call, I suggest sending the receiver of the call their pot a few days before by mail.
My fall back position is a pigeon!
Is that the Pigeon 6, or the Galaxy Pigeon Version 3?
Haven't decided yet, google is not really helping (strangely enough...)
If the difference in price is negligible, I would go for the Moto G, always!
More stable and it'll last you more than 6 months...worth thinking about.
LOL! And, if I select carefully, I could ride it for transport...
I'm afraid Unlike a lot of dog breeds I don't think pigeons come in a "mini" version. But I'm not sure, the Yorkshire lot on MAP will know all there is to know about pigeons though.
Well my iJunk 5 has finally started to die on me. It's suprising in two ways:
1. Since I baby my phones I've dropped it maybe a handful of times
2. It's dying all over. Every so often the screen will just stop responding for a few minutes and then rapidy respond to everything I've done while it was frozen. Any and all wireless connections keep having problems as well.
Goodbye crApple hello Android.
I think I've finally settled on either getting the OnePlus Two or the Letv Le Max. The Max is a ridiculously powerful, HUGE, smartphone of Chinese make with hardware basically equal to a Galaxy S6 but a better battery life. The real problem is finding a decent price and making sure it's not a fake.
OK, I think I've decided on the Moto 3rd generation 2gb version. Is it worth buying a screen protector and/or some sort of case for the phone?
Separate names with a comma.
