Sorry for the out of UK guys here, but this show was ridiculous! It's about girls who get guys who are just "friends" pay to talk to them or go out on a date with them! They earn a living this way, a guy bought a girl a car and in return all he wanted was a tweet on his page! What is the world coming to? http://www.channel4.com/programmes/sex-lies-rinsing-guys/4od
That's the thing they don't sleep with the men, one never even meets or talks to them, just tweets and has an Amazon wishlist where someone bought her an Ipad, Channel Watches, a new Tumble Dryer, a Rolex and so on... For nothing.
my uni became famous recently when a girl here went on a (think it was channel 4) documentary admitting that she works in the phone sex industry. she was walking around my local tesco, shopping, when she was doing here business (in the documentary). (my friend has spent several weeks trying to locate and sleep with her just for the "achievement". apparently she would be the most famous person he would have ever slept with, bad times) Also, i hear its common thing in japan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enjo_kōsai
Although in the formal and correct sense prostitution is money for sex, there are so many facets to it that the definition needs expanding IMO. This is a very small facet of it at the low end, but still falls under the general banner I am not even saying it is morally wrong...questionable yes...but it is effectively selling oneself for reward
I wouldn't call it prostitution at all, if I had a twitter page where I had fans then put up an Amazon wish list of things I wanted and people kept buying them for me, I would become a prostitute? I guess when I have games on my Steam wishlist and clan members just decide to buy them for me like Skyrim, MW3, and Dead Island I'm somehow a prostitute? By your definition anyone who accepts a gift is a prostitute.
accepting a gift for doing stuff for people... I That what hannibal meant. MY MUM GETTING A PLATE OF COOKIES FROM THE LADY NEXT DOOR FOR HELPING WITH THE GARDEN! OH NO! does that make her bad?
So they're just escorts? Am I über un-sensitive or does anyone else not see the big deal? Yeah their gifts are a bit extravagant compared to the norm but an escort is just an escort, hell I've mates who've done it for a bit of extra cash, I doubt I'd turn down the work given what they earn.
I haven't seen the programme but it's also being discussed at more length on IC. It's not exactly new, guys seem to be more down on it than girls, possibly because of the CPE. In the case of a friend, it's not because she couldn't meet someone nice, my bf at the time was completely disgusted at L but having been on the receiving end of almost zero commitment LDR where it's quite possible the guy was married, getting gifts just for spending time wasn't so weird.
I am not sure what CPE is, but what happens when guys do this sort of thing is that they are inflating the "cost" of dating for every other guy. On the other end of the spectrum, women on some base level dislike promiscuous women because they lower the cost of dating. That is why I believe men are down on these high priced hussies and women are down on whole sale hoochies. In most cases I blame the guy and girl equally. I don't thinks it's right that these women should be expecting these extravagant gifts, and I think the men that buy them are not really men at all.
I don't see the point in buying a woman a gift if she's not going to put out in return. Unless she's a close relative, of course. I suppose the wife is a gray area.
Ah meant TPE total power exchange, more of a kink thing, though basically opposite of the standards of patriarchal society. Girls have all the power. I dont think it is dating as such like you'd ask someone out at college or that you met in class. I think there are reasons why this has come about, though yes it is exploitative.
No they are not escorts, if you're in the UK it would make better sense if you watch it, I mean I did provide a link. One of them only has a Twitter fanbase, then she also hs a link to her Amazon wishlist and men she has never spoken to buy her gifts because they want to catch her attention or they are in love? One during the show has a male "friend" invite her to New York and then take her shopping, they don't sleep with them.
It's kind of a warped version of the systems of patronage you got in more feudal societies, although if I'm honest, I'm probably not intrigued enough by the parallels to watch the show.
pretty girls fleece idiots with to much money, in what way is that anything new ? ch4 along with bbc3 masters of making documentary's out of nothing.
