I wondered what all you guys and girls focus on when watching your Sensei demonstrate a new technique.

I was talking with my Sensei earlier today regarding what students focus on when learning waza. I asked the same question to a very capable student in our class, and found out that he focused especially on the ending position of my Sensei's feet (among other things). My Sensei said that he has heard
it said that if one STARTS and ENDS a technique well, then the middle part is bound to be correct. So, this student has picked up on a very valid learning strategy!

From my own case, thinking back to what I normally watch while waza are being demonstrated........ - it is usually the Sensei's upper body. I guess I can get a feel for the technique, especially the flow of a technique, from looking at this.

And I also remember Dave Lowry writing of "Mirume"(?) - of looking at the whole picture rather than a particular detail........

Hmmm, so much to learn, so little time.

    Your thoughts anyone?
