Very probably, although there are commonalities amongst weapons that just make sense Compare both the above to the "Beaver Tail" dagger
Cold Steel have their version too (which is currently sitting at about #7 on my "next purchase" list)
It depends what day you ask me! I am working on a design with a bladesmith at the moment which is a double edged fighter For knives I prefer the double edge - for anything bigger I prefer single so I can "push in" on the spine. I find the double edge excellent for largo mano "defanging"
You guys can count yourselves lucky you can buy/own these knives. In Australia anything that isn't a kitchen knife is effectively banned.
So the whole Crocodile Dundee 'That's not a knife...' is not a realistic depiction of your average Aussie..I am dissapoint Surely rural folk can own 'gardening tools' for 'gardening'
OK, y'all are making me want to post things. Someone quoted Crocodile Dundee, so I am compelled to say "this is a knife:" Behold the German war knife (Kriegsmesser): [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8kF4ncyVoY"]albion the knecht mk 2 - YouTube[/ame] 44.5 inches of kick-ass. I've got one and it's sweet. The weapon of the working man. Description here. Best regards, -Mark
Yep probably - it si called a "Shanghai Shadow" after all! It is actually fascinating to see how virtually identical blades arose with little to no cultural contact. Some things are just good ideas!
Terminology for messers is nebulous at best. You've got messer, langes messer, and grosse messer, which translate to "knife", "long knife", and "big knife" respectively. I don't think they had a consistent terminology for them back in the day anyway. Here's an outrageously image-heavy messer-tastic thread: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=15053 Best regards, -Mark
Hey Stevie, I thought it was moer the carrying around of knives that was an issue than the ownership per se? I quick trip down to the local disposal store would let me get a hold of a fair bit of the cold steel range, not to mention a delightful smattering of machetes, and even some throwing knives. paul
