Well everyone, after 3.5 years of waiting to test, I finally tested and passed my 3rd dan testing. I had to do a written test in which I only got one question wrong. For the endurance test I had to do 1,000 right hand punches, 1,000 left hand punches, 500 right leg front snap kicks, 500 left leg front snap kicks, 500 right leg roundhouse kicks, 500 left leg roundhouse kicks, and 100 left/right legs jumping front snap kicks, it was supposed to be 500 right leg, 500 left leg, but we ran out of time. After the endurance test we had to do Forms, We did Koryo, Kumkang, and Taeback. After that we did Kicking combinations, because of the time, we only had to do yellow, green, and red tip. (instead of Orange, blue and brown) After kicking combinations we did one-step sparring (which was really two-step sparring for us). We did the same tips (yellow, green, and red). After that we had to do breaking, for breaking I had to do punch-front snap kick-punch-front snap kick-punch- front snap kick-punch-front snap kick-punch-front snap kick-punch-front snap kick-punch-front snap kick-punch-front snap kick-punch-front snap kick-punch-front snap kick, 10 times for both. The grandmaster tied on my belt, and said "keep working hard, and now work even harder." After that all the masters, head-masters, and new black belts had a group picture. Then it was finally over. The testing went from 9am-5:30pm, 8.5 hours!
Congratulations! Wow, that sounds like a busy day! I wont complain ever again when my instructor makes us do 55 sit ups! Only joking! Well done and keep on kicking!
Well done man! That's awesome news. Impressive - out of interest, how long did this part of the test take?
The endurance test took 2 hours, now I'm so sore I can barely move. I have a bruise on my arm from one-step sparring, and a huge bruise on my right foot from the breaking technique.
Thanks guys, now the next thing I have to do is schedule a meeting with the grandmaster, so that we discuss whether I will be allowed to go into the 4th degree program next. (I hope so, it is the master program) If not, I will just be teaching for the next few years.
congrats! I just passed my 4th Kup and though a 2hr grading was hard... I wonder how many of these people who downplay the effort needed for TKD would fare.
Wow thats some grading. When I first read it I thought you said 1000 right hand push ups. LOL You deserve to pass well done
Thanks everyone. Pulp Fiction - There were only two of us testing for 3rd dan. The testing was for everyone going for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd dan black belt. We were the 1st 3rd dan testers that TMA ever had.
well done sounds like u earned it. i would never be able to do that lol. specilly the jump front kicks as i complin wen we do 10 haha. show ya tho. well done tho. hope u get to do ur 4th
Congrats on your 3rd dan promotion! I have been waiting in anticipation for my 3rd dan grading now for close to 4 years also.... and hope to test early next year! (perhaps I will be 3rd dan by NYC MAP Meet time ) I personally am choosing to wait as I feel I am not ready ... Your grading procedure is quite different than ours .... (not that it is any easier) but very different. 1,000 punches- 500 kicks? And the breaking --- punch-front snap kick-punch-front snap???? what is this? How many boards? Why not a more advanced technique break? No sparring with 4th- 5th or above ranks? (this is what scares me!) Talk about endurance testing !!!
