Cover to cover several times, plus commentaries and histories and "Church Fathers" stuff. I was a Baptist Bible teacher for a while and religion is still my other hobby. I also studied Buddhism enough that I should have a B.A. in it, and I've read the Koran twice.

Misguided as in 1900 years of tradition reading it one way, and then you come along and ignore that history but *insist* that your way is right? That's exactly what the fraudulent televangelists do, actually, but my point from the beginning was in post #35. To that I add that as far as I know the Eastern Orthodox Church also rejects socialism as inconsistent with Christianity. If you know something contrary regarding either the RC or the EO Church, great. This is my hobby so I'm always willing to learn.

religion is the root of all our problems. Admit it. I believe am right and you are wrong. Since you disagree. I will have to force you to my belief. Or just kill you.

Great! Let me teach you then ... Both RC and EO church preach the equal authority of church tradition and Scripture, which is contrary to what the bible actually states. They both also discourage individuals from interpreting the Bible apart from their tradition. Both these positions grant much more power to the church leaders and makes it much easier for them to control the peasantry, which is the basis of both churches since the middle ages. Sorry, but I lump both the EO and RC churches in with those televangelists as self-serving entities cashing in on Christ. Don't get me wrong, they do a lot of good in the world, and have many good ideas. However, their main thrust is as a business and that is contrary to what Christ preaches.

From what I've read RC church had more of a problem with totalitarian communism than socialism; they were alright with whatever government as long as they were on the top of the heap.

Different dogmas, different times, same issues. Readings. On the 6th day, man create god. Maybe if religions were the creations of gods and not men, that nonsense wouldn’t happen. Islam is the youngest petulant child of monotheistic religions. It’ll mature as whole eventually but probably not during our lifetime. Christianity had its fair share of obscurantism and barbaric proselytism. Both are equally void of reason and logics as each other anyway. Superstitions elevated to the rank of supernatural powers that do little other than delay progress.

In your blog you mention your against gays being allowed in the boy scouts?

(I hope I haven't misread that, your blog was quite nuanced, please correct me if im wrong)

Is your problem with homosexuality from your religion, or due to another reason?

ps your blog features quite a few entries about homosexality.
If I may ask, after all your religious study, how does your religion effect your views on homosexality?

I was plainly upset that the BSA would stand in a courtroom at least 5 times (California, 3 times in New Jersey, and the U.S. Supreme Court) and swear one thing, and then turn around vote the opposite. The first point of the Scout Law is that "a Scout is trustworthy." Regardless of the subject matter, swearing in court one thing 5 times, and then doing the opposite of what you swore, is the opposite of trustworthy.

Yeah, you should go all-out and not allow black folk either. Can't be trusted with a damn thing.

The only difference I see between televangelists and the RC and EO churches is that the former have recently tried to enter in the oligopolistic market the older churches have meticulously created through hundreds of years.

Of course those churches don't interpret Jesus as a communist or an anarchist, since hierarchy and market control is important to them. (not to say that I interpret him as such)

In my country the Orthodox church is very dominant.
It doesn't pay taxes while it makes many millions of euros and the high priests, when they aren't busy getting themselves involved with financial scandals (illegal off-shore companies f.ex.) or with illegal judicial networks, are spending their time condemning homosexuals as animals or making extremist nationalist and polemical speeches.

Recently a church big-wig cursed everyone who ate meat during the Easter to have their stomachs rot.

When people bring issues like those up, religious people often say to pay no attention to the church, it's Jesus' own words and message that counts, but apparently it's that very message that only church has the right to interpret..

Is that also why a few posts earlier your complaining about equal rights access to marriage?

What are your personal beliefs towards homosexuality?

Oh man, this makes me so sad to find this out. This wouldn't be the first time though that I found out that someone I really cyber got along with actually was against me and my having equal rights. Ouch! This one hurts- I admit it. :(

A sad sad reminder that one doesn't really know someone just because you seem to get along on posts on a forum.

I find the use of the term "avowed homosexual" particular chilling.

A classic example of mistaking moral consistency with ethics. I think it was Shakespeare who said "'Tis better to be a jerk all one's life than admit one was wrong." Oh wait. In reality I think it's just a convoluted intellectual window dressing for every day bigotry.

I mean… Wooof. This is kinda really problematic man. I know we've disagreed on the Trump thing, but I honestly expected better of you.

No one needs BSA to teach kids how to make a fire in the wild. Leave the org to the morally obtuse; at least everyone will know who they are if they didn't already. It's not different from show owners who refuse service to gays. Please do placard your views on the store front so that I know what businesses not to give my money to.

I disagree - I think allowing businesses to refuse service to gays, different races, different religions, what have you is harmful to society as a whole. I also think it's inaccurate to say that it is better to remain bigoted than to change your business' bigotry.

That's an understatement. If I'd ever typed "Homosexuality is not morally straight" in defence of the damn boy scouts I'd be utterly ashamed.
