Hey people (first post ) Just need some help, what order are the belts in JJ in etc.? (Red=1 etc) Robert
Well it actually varies between class to class or system to system - Our Combat Ju Jitsu system goes: White - when you enter, 1st grading to - Yellow Red Orange Green Blue Brown Black
Ours goes: white, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown 1, brown 2, brown 3, black 1-10 The other school in our town: white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown, black 1-5
White Some other colours Black Every instructor is free to set their own order. Usually they tend to get darker as you get higher up.
Agreed.BUt i believe that black rave was saying that there were no coloured belts in martialarts. That's what use to appen( form balck to white) I think
The story of the belt colors I have heard was this To begin training you were given a white belt. Through years of training your belt would build up dirt and grim becuase one does not wash their belt. Eventually the belt would be Black. However, one would continue training and the belt would wear down shedding its outer layer, becoming white again. It was a full circle resprenting even a master can be taught. To answer the orginal question: In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu its White Blue Purple Brown Black
"If I remember rightly, didn't they originally go darker because you kept the same one and dyed it? " I have been told that it just got dirty over the years, so it was a sign of how long you had been studying.......which usually meant the better you were, sadly not always the case in reality.
If that is the case, then I will work my way up to a Blackbelt in a matter of weeks Alas, if only it was that easy Rob
ur all wrong sorry m8s but how many of u actualy learn ju-jitsu?i'm with ishin ryu ju-jitsu.firstly you can't make your own belt sequence or every 1 would be black wouldn't they?secondly the belt sequence is: white white with a black strip going all the way round (called white black). yellow yellow black orange orange black green green black blue blue black purple purple black brown brown black Burky:yeleyes:
There must be a picture of a "For Sale" bridge around somewhere You've been to every jujutsu club everywhere have you? Perhaps in your organisation thats the set belt progession, but other clubs/orgs have their own. EDIT> And why have you brought back a thread thats been happily DEAD since July 2003 ?!?!?!?! :bang: :woo:
burky: That's not a traditional jujutsu belt sequence. It is the belt sequence for your style of jujutsu. Every style has a different method of grading people and uses a different set of coloured belts to measure progression. Your style is not the only way. I sincerely hope that your stay at MAP is a good one, despite making your first post title "ur all wrong" and asking the poeple on the jujutsu forum if they actually study jujutsu... As an exceptionally late reply to morphus and some others, belts getting darker through dirt is an urban legend. Just thing about it: would the Japanese, some of the cleanest people in history, have allowed their belt to get that filthy? Not too likely!
Dispite my flippant mood (be glad it's not the same as the mood i was in last night at training.....limbs were a-flying!) i will try and get to the oint with the minimum amount of jibbing... I agree completely with Aegis. I also train in 3 different styles of Jiu Jitsu and they each have their own belt system. Also as an aside, i don't know about the users on this forum as i only make random appearances, but i know on others the best way to rattle someones case is using text speak. It annoying, irritating and arguably imature... Moony
The system I train goes like this: White White-yellow (to weed out the impatient and get som extra dough ) Yellow Orange Green Blue Purple Brown Black Every system has different belts. It doesn't really matter what the stupid colours are. It's Kyu to Dan, simple as that. Different styles have different curriculums (urgh, spelling). Some have fewer ranks, some have more. Doesn't really matter. Go train! And burky .. I mean.. what?
Wow, that's a lot of belts - I bet your instructor's laughing all the way to the bank. I won't dignify the rest of your post with a response In my school it goes: White Yellow Orange Red (I'm testing for this on Sunday) Green Purple Blue Brown Brown with black tag Black
