Re countering the knee push when the arms are in tight,
@4.30 I use this all the time!
Same! DWL is my go to move. (Yes I call it the DWL, even in BJJ )
absolutely, which is why i mentioned it. you gotta get out of there quick and get the underhook in quick, because if you don't, you'll end up either back in k-o-b or in their side control.
as with so many escapes from inferior positions, the best defense is always, don't get there to begin with. as kurt osiander like to say "you [messed] up" if you're in a bad spot.
reading this thread has brought back bad memories of k-o-b in practice. my coach stresses the position. for one, it's a great position, very powerful and a great bed to launch attacks off of. but two, he always reminds us that the position is points, as opposed to side-control which has no points.
so yeah, everyone goes for it where i train. and when i started i was rolling with a particularly tough and large gentleman and feeling his knee in my belly as he was turning me into his own bow....brutal. i also had recently smoked some cigarettes. i am a former pack-a-day guy, and for the last 12 years, i'd say i've probably been 90-95% free of it. this particular time, i went out with some friends, had a couple smokes (what could it hurt right?), then went to the gym the next day. yeah, that never happened again.
