Did Miyamoto Musashi know any form of empty hand combat? I am guessing since he's so darn good with the sword it's unlikely for him to lose his weapon.

It is believed that Miyamoto Musashi had studied jujitsu since he was quite young and was both proficient at it and physically strong for his age. His first duel at age thirteen was against the Samurai Arima Kihei - a swordsman of the Shinto-Ryu.

Musashi then known as Miyamto Bennosuke employed jujitsu to get the upperhand and kill Arima Kihei. He beat Arima Kihei to death with a wooden staff.
