    Hi

What do you guys regard as the best usage of a kubotan / pocket stick?
The options are endless, hammerstrikes, icepick strikes, dim mak jabs, locks, holds, mini flail. It is effective, but what is YOUR preferred way of using one?

    Cheers

Back when I was a bouncer I used it as a "come along" to escort idiots out of the bar..I carried it as a flail when walking to my cat at closing time in case when of those that I escorted out was waiting to "thank" me in the parking lot..Today as a cop I still use it as a come along when escorting prisoners to my cruiser, I place it between the chain of the hand cuffs and not use my fingers as some of the rookies do..

Are those really worth the cash? I'm fairly certain they're legal, so would they be worth an investment? Syn, what do you think?

They are very cheap only a few dollars for one. It is regarded as one of the most versatile and LEGAL self defense tools available with many techniques. My favourite ones is using it as a mini chuck or in holding it in an ice pick grib and smashing it into the joints and bones in a hammerlike fashion.

    Check out www.yawara.com
Very interesting useful info on the kubaton.

Very good for bouncers or LEOs. When I was a LEO I saw it used effectively on "mummies", arrestees who would freeze up so they could not be handcuffed or stuffed in the car.

As a self-defense weapon for myself, I am less than enthused. It's a weapon that I must deploy. If I have to reach for a weapon, I will reach for my pistol which is many times more effective and is stand-off capable.

Don't you think that utilizing an alternative to deadly force is needed. For instance: you as a LEO want someone to move from point A to point B, but they refuse. They don't have a weapon, but at the same time they are ambivilant to the fact that you have a pistol and are pointing it at them. Do you shoot them? That would be a punishment unbefitting the crime. There is a contraversy in Florida these days over the misuse of tazers by the police force. I would think that in a lot of circumstances training with the yawara, kubaton, etc.. would have a lot of merit.

goju, absolutely, as I said, kubotans are great for LEOs (law enforcement officer). However, I am not a LEO. I do not go about arresting people or ordering them to move here or there. The "orders" I give to women are ignored. :D

I agree with your observation and agree that they should be incorporated into LEO training.
