Where are you based Slasha - perhaps we know some good groups in your area?
I attended one years ago, in comparison to a lot of the places I've been since some of it (the groundwork) was mediocre at best, iirc they didn't really mention the guard, and dangerous at worst ('here, choke me with straight arms, I'm just going to poke you in the throat, make no attempt to strike me, or resist'). A couple of them turned up at the traditional Jiu Jitsu club I now attend (after a couple of years off from training to be fair to them), and didn't come back, which was a shame. One of them tried to break my grip by pulling individual fingers...
Try it out, if you enjoy it, stay there, as you've said you don't really have an interest in fighting If all you're after is fitness, signing up to a gym and doing some sessions would be a quicker route. Swimming is fantastic, spinning is good for cardio, learning to deadlift, squat, bench, and row with good form is also good for you If you are after that TMA feel, maybe a local karate club with an emphasis on kata would be for you?
