What are your favurite drills for the kids? I've started helping out with the kids class on occasion and like to bring in a fresh drill or activity. Last week I had two kick pads (one in each arm) the kids had to throw a from kick and not get their leg trapped when I closed the pad. You can bang the pads and startle the kids but it doesn't hurt when they are too slow. Maybe an elbow or back fist drill but it doesn't matter.....
get kids into pairs and give one a ribbon to stic kthru the back of their belt, the gane is to try to catch the tail and of course to protext your tail. a great percursor to sparring drills
You line up in two lines with the seniors behind and the kids in front. Then each senior kicks the kid in front as hard as they can. The one who gets their kid furthest across the hall wins. This is good because it...um...conditions them... and improves their... aerodynamics...
A really fun one for kids is doing their forms with opponents. We have four opponents on each side, so the kid gets a sense of what the form is really for, and the kids seem to have fun. Another one is tying a belt to each kid's belt, and having them do certain techniques. It teaches them distancing and flow in sparring.

Great footwork drill Teach the kids how to shuffle (front foot first, then slide up back foot). Put bags around the room in a big circle. Have them keep their hands up while shuffling around in the same direction. Then yell "change direction", they have to stop and go in the opposite direction. Then add punches once they master it. They have fun, get warmed up and learn footwork at the same time. Even the bigger kids love it.
