This is for those members in the UK. If you were able to pick 5 instructors to teach seminars in one block, who would you like to see, what would you like them to teach etc? They have to be alive
I can't think of many of the specific names, but I know I'd want one of the top BJJ practitioners, one of the Gracies I'd assume, but I don't know whether their best fighters are necessarily their best teachers. I'd also want a top full-contact karate practitioner, maybe Shokei Matsui. Beyond that I'm not sure other than I'd quite like a top tai chi person for a calmer more health and relaxation based side of things.
Hmmmm.... Kicking techniqes with Frank Brennan Punching Techniques with Steve Arneil Throwing Techniques with Neil Adams Restraint techniques with Terry Wyngrove Karate for self-defence with Terry O'Neill
I will change my mind later: Neil Adams for throwing. Geoff Thompson for an Animal Day. Preferrably drunk and with sick buckets ready. Iain Abernethy. A top MT guy, Master Sken? I'm way out of touch with that scene. Hee Il Cho That should keep me going, and is chosen only because I've already done seminars with all the top TAGB guys, Henk Meyer, Stuart Anslow etc etc. Mitch Oh! Oh! Dave Turton of the Self Defence Federation and the FAST guys and some more Defendo and ...
Master Sken Muaythai Roger Gracie or Mauricao Motta Gomes BJJ Neil Adams /Masahiko Kimura Judo Sammy Franco Real Self-defence Cus D'Amato Boxing 2cube
Saw Terry O'Neill in Tesco's about a month back.He was walking really funny. I think all those years of Karate stiffness are taking their toll. Terry O'Neill used to get the crap kicked out of him by Steve Morris, and Morris still does seminars. www.morrisnoholdsbarred.co.uk
Neil Adams for juji gatame variations, Marcello Garcia for sub grappling Dan Gable for ofs wrestling Poot lor lek for Muay Thai(1960s) style Geoff Thompson for common sense self defence
Erik Paulson - submission fighting Josh Barnett - Catch wrestling Randy Couture - clinch fighting Bas Rutten - MMA striking Eddie Bravo - Jiu Jitsu
I went to an Eddie Bravo seminar years ago. It was quality. Apparently the next day he got pizza delivered halfway through.
Joe Carslake Hanshi, I think he's a great teacher. Any of our ju jitsu instructors in our organisation Geoff Thompson Neil Adams Ze Marcello
I've been to seminars with the bottom 2 people on your list! How cool am I!?!? My dad actually hosted the master Sken seminar, it was really good, especially if your not too familiar with Muay Thia training. From what I can remember he's not to expensive either, so I would defiantly recommend having him to any instructors thinking about it. You can see pictures of the seminar here http://www.turnerstaekwondo.com/forum/index.php?topic=13.0
I went to an MAI super seminar a few years back. On the bill was Neil Adams, Geoff Thompson, Peter Consterdine and Rick Young (and some Pressure point dudes but I didn't really rate what they did). That was a pretty good day. One I'd do again. My abiding memory is of how muscular Neil Adam's thumbs are. Like he had two chicken drum sticks on the sides of his hands. Also did a bit of training with Dave Turton when he did a session for the people that went on the old Tung-Fu forum.
My choices In no particular order... Patrick McCarthy Koryu Uchinadi Terry Wingrove Karate Jutsu and Yawara Joe Carslake Jujutsu Zhang Xiu Mu Tai Chi Tadanori Nobetsu Karate
