Do you like the pre-modern bladed stuff or the post modern-per the "fantasy"?

In regards to the OP, I fall in the pre-modern category. Since there has been a discussion of kerambits on a couple of threads lately, I thought I would post mine on here.

    Cheers!

I guess I lean towards simple, classic designs and post modern materials. My current favorite is my Fallkniven A1 with laminated VG10 steel.

    Knew this.

Some say that original Damascus steel can no longer be produced

Have you checked on the few I had mentioned in my opening post?

Also, to everyone, can you name other smiths out there?

Check through the threads here, I'm sure that's where I saw the article I mentioned regarding trying to determine it's exact composition. If I've time later I'll try to track it down.

Many people tried to recreate Damascus steel, and no-one is entirely sure if it is correct or not. However, modern Damascus methods use a process like this

This is from Dean Hazuka, who is a hand forger and makes some phenomenal knives (including mine!)

I am trying to justify buying a Damascus Bowie from him!

I dont know about using a knife for fighting, but from a design point of view the British Comando dagger is my favourite knife

It just looks so simple yet so deadly

The FS dagger is a fave of mine too! TheV-42 dagger is very similar. Double edge, wicked point and the pommel is a skullcrusher!

My design was heavily influenced by this knife as well as the beaver tail

I'm a big fan of very direct designs. Simple is good but something to set it apart is important. I'm looking to get a kukri at some point but other than that it's mostly robust but easily overlooked modern designs. Always a fixed blade, always a big barrier between the grip and edge.
These are the main ones in my collection:

And the Smoky Mountain Knife Works is the biggest collection I've seen.

I have no solid training in knifework, but one kind of knife I've always been fascinated with is the butterfly knife, purely because it looks awesome when flipping it around. Spy in Team Fortress 2 for the win.
