woow some of these are amazing. i love art in general. the one thing i wish i could do was anime... i think its fantastic http://www.theotaku.com/
Kandinsky is another of my favourites..... Chuck Close is one of my top 3 favourites artists. (Just to clarify, those top 3 are paintings, not photos)
He was VERY good, I'll give you that. I would even go as far as saying that he was maybe better than Rembrandt and Van Gogh... but that's just personal opinion.
Here's another good one... R.K. Post - He's got the stuff baby... Angel of Retribution Lightning Angel Avatar of Woe R.K. Post link here...
Jesh, The second piece titled 'Illusion' I don't believe is an Escher. It looks much to contemporary. It looks much more like a commercial illustration. Are you sure that is an Escher piece? I would guess it's an illustration done in the Escher style. The R.K. Post work I am not a big fan of. The poses are unispired and stiff. The color pallette is lacking and the overall 80's fantasy feel is not my thing. I don't think much of his composition skills. Most of them seem fairly static. I'll have to check out the web links you've provided. I believe much of R.K. Posts work is in fantasy art compilation books that I have as reference. Homer J. Simpson, Attempts to compare Escher to either Rembrandt or Van Goh are silly. The reasons why such a comparison a dead end are far too numerous to list here. :bang: But... first off I guess you start with they are very different styles and techniques with the end purpose all being very different. Not to mention the time period and societies in which the art was being created. As a graphic arts student how much fine arts history do you have to study? There are reasons why works by Rembrandt are considered the work of a master. I must commend you on posting the work of Chuck Close... His work is some of the best contemporary stuff ever. I've seen many of his exhibitions and they're stunning! There are some interesting interviews with the artist himself. I'll see if I can post some.
I think Boris Vallejo should be mentioned. Most of his are somewhat fruitier. Tim White and Rodney Matthews are also worth a peep.
Hmmmm... not a big fan of the whole "glossy soft-porn" style of fantasy art. Dave McKean or Bill Sienkiewicz I do like!
This thread just keeps gettin' better! Moosey - both Dave McKean and Bill Sienkiewicz rock! I have just about everything they've done in first edition. The Sienkiewicz work on Daredevil was spectacular!
And just to keep up the goodness... Another piece of Brom... Platinum Angel Greg Horn Serra Angel (yes, another one... I don't know how many artists did this one)
Yeah I think you are right on that 2nd escher peice slip. I know Escher pretty well, and that one isn't in any of my books.
Yeah yeah, so I screwed up with the second piece on the Escher post. Thanks for rubbing it in guys !!! I wanted to post a different one but it was to big, and I didn't feel like resizing the image (lazy me)... Anyways... some more angels...
