Darren Laur Collected Articles You guys ever hear about this dude? He's a sergeant with the Victoria Police Department in British Columbia, Canada. He's been studying combatives for 15 years and teaches a program called Integrated Street Combatives. He's written a wealth of really interesting articles that anybody taking martial arts and self defence seriously should take the time to read. Someone has recently collected all his articles onto one website, which is now a great resource. Check it out here. Comments?
Thank you Andy: Everything that I have written you are more than welcome to post in your article section. Strength and Honor Darren Laur PS: A student of mine who did a search on my name came across this site and passed it onto me. As you know, I approach the issue of self protection from a "street" perspective and as such consider myself to be a "modern realist"
You can trust your Uncle Mo Lung to bring you the best in modern day martial concepts and the people that are behind them! Thanks Darren!
Thank you Mo: Obviously you liked my articles ???? Any and all feedback is most welcome. Strength and Honor Darren Laur
Re: Thank you No, I hated them and posted the link for ridicule. Actually, I'm always on the lookout for people that write well and sensibly about combat techniques that are effective and tested in the modern environment. I'm very much a traditional martial artist, but if I can't apply the techniques, I'm not interested. Traditional martial arts and modern or "street" combat are not mutually exclusive by any means. Articles such as you write are excellent for me to think about how I would apply my training to the situations and methods you describe. It all helps to keep it real, you know. Geoff Thompson is another great in this field and his stuff is excellent to read. There's another dude too, but I'm having a brain fart and can't bring his name to mind. One too many punches in the head last night perhaps!? Darren, who are your influences in the field? Other than your own experience, whose words and methods do you respect?
