Can you fly? And if you can, how big are you? Me, I'm 6' (1.8 meters) tall, and weigh approx. 190 lbs (86 kilos), and I don't fly too well! The people that I see really fly well are smaller and lighter than me. Still I'd like to be better. I know it's all flash, but it's still impressive to watch. Any big folks out there that care really catch some air? What's your secret?
we learn too fly at black belt (we get a lisence and earn air miles) anyhoo, im fairly big 6` but light at 63kg and i can get good air. about 2-3 foot if im trying hard. from standing. i have problems landing in the right stance so i lose my balance.
i find flying front kick easier than the standard one. and a jumping back kick will impress even the snobbiest of mates. however im trying the flying side kick but i still cant properly chamber the non-kicking leg, does anybody have any ideas how to stop it reaching for terra firma prematurely?
Where I take class we are very big on jumping/flying. I can get around 4 feet of air with a flying side kick. But only about 2 1/2 with a jump front kick if i start off standing in a ready/fighting stance. By the way, I'm 6'1" 160 lbs. TKDNunchaku
Voting on a poll where some of the answers are "Yes I can fly", seemed slightly strange to me, but there you go. Kwang gae, did you by any chance post this thread after a particularly hard sparring session? Perhaps one where you took a bit more hits to the head than you usually would?
thank you. you dont know how much i was waiting for somebody to say that (not that i wanted to post it of course)
LOL, no but I did post it after watching some videos of guys doing 540's, and the like. Made me think about my less than mighty flying side kick, etc. We don't put much emphasis on aerial techniques at our school, but some of the teen BB's are really into it anyway and have some good stuff. Just thought the thread would be a light topic, (pun intended).
i can fly i'm 6" tall and 88kg, the secret in the arms (throw them up) and the lifting knee. it's all to do with explosive leg power. do lots of jump training. jump to kness to chest from squat position, and jump as high as poss' from sraight legs. a few weeks ago i hit a target with a flying side kick that was higher than i could reach full streatch, thats over 7"! anyway here's a pic to prove i can fly
Our organization doesn't really emphasize jumping/flying kicks either. I do wish the black belts would do them more because (a) it is in keeping with the Tae Kwon Do aesthetic and (b) it gives us something to strive for. Usually we get black belts doing the same old same old, even in sparring, and it gets a bit old at times. It's like noone knows how to do those techniques anymore. I hate to think our young students are so caught up in tournament sparring that they lose all these traditional Korean kicks just to make points. Not to brag, but I was considered quite the jumper in years past. I was the first person to demonstrate scissor and triple leg jumping breaks in testing, and one of the few to really showcase aerial techniques. Now it's like people don't know how to do them anymore -sigh-.
The poll left out medium (5'10" & 195 pounds) sized folks who can or can't fly.Anyways,I can kick head height,I can jump/kick but I still feel grounded when I do so(short hang time). So I would say,no I can't fly.
I can slide! I must have penguin feet or something, because when I do sliding kicks, I can get over a metre of distance. My sliding axe kick is the best, I can slide nearly two metres. Yes I am that lame that I have measured the distance!
