Buakaw Por. Pramuk (Thai บัวขาว ป. ประมุข, born May 8, 1982) is a Thai welterweight Muay Thai kickboxer, fighting out of Por Pramuk Gym, in Bangkok, Thailand. He is a former Omnoi Stadium champion and two time, 2004, 2006 K-1 World MAX champion.
    Biography and career

Born as Sombat Banchamek in Surin, Thailand, Buakaw started his fighting career at the age of eight in his home province of Surin in the northeastern Thailand, before moving to Por. Pramuk gym at the age of 10 some say 15. His first fight name was Damtamin Kiat-anan.

Buakaw has collected several belts to his name since fighting in Bangkok. The Omnoi Stadium featherweight title was his first belt, after that he would go on to take the featherweight champion of Thailand title. Buakaw then proceeded to win another Omnoi Stadium title belt, this time at in lightweight division. In December 2002, Buakaw won the Toyota Marathon 140 lb. tournament at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, beating the highly regarded Kobayashi of Japan in the final.

In July 2004 Buakaw became the K-1 MAX World champion beating John Wayne Parr, Takayuki Kohiruimaki and previous champion Masato in the finals. In 2005 he nearly repeated his run for tournament champion, but lost the extra round decision to Dutch shoot-boxer, Andy Souwer in the finals. In the 2006 K-1 MAX World Grand Prix, Buakaw again faced Andy Souwer in the finals, but this time defeated Souwer by TKO with a flurry of punches, thereby winning his second K-1 World MAX title and becoming the first man to win that title twice.

I was speaking with an acquaintance who fights on a lot of the same shows as Buakaw and said that, despite the man being massive AND ripped.... he has to eat like a horse to maintain his weight at about 72kg.

Says he just ate loads all day every day - including the day of the weigh in. Still apparently came in at 70kg. How the hell does the man do it!?

I really not know. But him do work out 2 times a day. And what him do is not like a average Thai boxer do ;)

Him also say in the video. That when you are and have nothing. And after you start win big K-1 events. And become a superstar. Then you have it all and the dream did come threw,,.. When this video was taped did him say him was 27 so its only 1 year ago. Anyway him did also say that him was very tired. And him was thinking more about coaching in the future then his own training..

I just hope someday we see the Yod - Buakaw fight happen. Although neither are the same as they were a couple years ago. Yod looks really slow these days. Time was I thought Yod would've ruined Buakaw but these days I'm not so sure. Buakaw is far more active, taken out his comfort zone far more often and fights harder fights than Yod.

Na I don't think we'll see it either - Fairtex have been offering the fight to Por Pramuk gym for years at any weight Buakaw wants. It's always been turned down. It's not the money, it's a clear case of Por Pramuk protecting Buakaw's rep - after all, wasn't he the omnoi stadium champion at 68 when he first started K1?

He's making a tidy sum doing seminars. We just had him over for a two day seminar here in Hong Kong. He's earned his chance to take it easy and live off the fat of the land for a bit. More power to him. Top notch guy... very personable. Everyone was truly stoked for the two days he was here.
