Well, I don't know about kickboxing, but you're a hell of a writer Hux. That was a great read!

how could you not win....his technique is obviously poor, from the picture hands down, chin up........

thats just a joke...if i found out i was fighting him my hamstring would mysterously pull a few days before the fight......

by the way why were you allowed to wear head gear?

great peice by the way...very well written

    Thanks guys :)

by that point he had discovered that I was not a serious threat, that is the last knockdown blow being delivered in that pic.

Amateur fights headgear is optional there. My trainer put me in it. I'm glad he did :)

So why do you think he beat you?

    Too strong?
    Too fast?
    Better Technique?

What have you learned/changed as a result?

Honestly? I think Jessie beat me at weigh ins. I was defeated before I ever stepped into the ring.

I learned that if I fight again it will be at < 190 pounds LOL

Wow Hux you write like that and you fight too!?! Great piece of writing/fighting... and you're a damn brave man to climb into the ring facing Jessie. He's a scary dude.

You think it was a weight win?

Or that you defeated yourself by your attitude?

    Cheers

Just curious btw, as I want to start fighting soon.

Nice piece! And the article wasn't bad either... ;)

  12. hux

    hux ya, whatever.

a little of both. Jessie weighed in at 198, and you can see that was not a very soft 198. I weighed in at a definitely soft 215. So I went in fat.

More than that, though, I freaked myself out starting at weigh ins. First I notice he's taller. Then I see him pull his shirt off at weigh in and think "oh man, this guy is in great shape...I bet he can fiht like a madman".

I was convinced I was about to get a beating before I ever stepped in.

Do I think I could have won? Knowing what I know now....nah. I think I could have done better, but he truly was a lot better than me. I really should not have been fighting the guy.

I really would do it again tomorrow, though. If I can cut enough weight I'll fight again in September and redeem myself with ninja skillz.

    :D

welcome to the world of fighting.

you have probable learned alot of lessons...and not just about fighting

just guessing but i bet you this was not jesses first fight?

one of the tricks of the trade.....and how good you will eventually be...is fight seting...good management....

a good fight manager will try early to get you fight you can win...eventually builing up the skill of your opponents.....if you have a layoff he will give you a chump to tune your skills ( break up the ring rust with out serious risk to injury)..

an unfortunate truth to fighting is often a guy is set up to be a fighter and the other his opponent.....guess who you were this time? :)

next time try to have your manager find a guy who has had less than 3 fights...(and hopefully a loss in there)..even if its a good guy try to find one who cant really bang(hit hard)......that way a least you will have a little more ring time......or a least more ring time without the twin refs.......i hate them guys, they always show up to see me lose.

    hux ya, whatever.

Jessie went into my fight 5-0 with 4 KO's ;)

    no doubt! LOL

my fight in September, if I can make the weight, is sposed to be much more evenly matched. We'll see. I'm still hoping for at least one MMA fight before my knees give out completely.

    Shrug.

    thanks guys.
