Only one person in this video is exhibiting bad martial arts... definitely an amusing find! Although to be fair, the drunken boxing guy does take quite a few hits and keeps going which is better than most bad martial artists we see in these videos, just would be probably good if he didn't get hit quite so much! :hat:

Why dancing and trying to intimidate your opponent in the ring probably isn't the best idea.

It's one thing to be unorthodox, like boxer Scott LeDoux. When it serves a purpose. It's another to make a point of looking "stylistic" as this individual does, when it has no purpose,(semi staggers, minor weaving, etc).Note the lead hand in "holding the cup" shape. So what's the good there? Protruding the chin isn't a very bright idea, either.Too much attention paid to unimportant things=not enough attention paid to opponent.

Not unorthodox enough to make a difference to an opponent, but wasteful enough to allow opponent to capitalize on it.

I do think it's bad Fantasy MA when you're practicing a system which doesn't exist, like drunken boxing.

I'm guessing the lack of anything resembling Muay Thai for starters?

My theory is that Drunken Boxing is only really useful as a surprise style. Once someone knows your a drunken boxer, then they know what to expect but if its done in when no one knows it then it becomes useful. Otherwise its a great art to practice but not for conventional means

But honestly it's much more than that isn't it? If it was billed as Kyokushin or any full contact art vs WC it'd still be a problem. And at least one thing that's wrong is that the lack of contact, the compliance, lets people walk through things and come back with more pat-a-cake.

It's the typical problem engendered by sparring in a semi-contact environment if you then claim to transfer those skills to full contact. It doesn't work that easily because suddenly instead of advancing on your opponent after a thigh kick (like the one at 16 secondsish, if it were delivered properly) you'd be limping around going ow! :D or at the very least slowed for a moment.

Similarly you wouldn't kick in the way that guy does outside of a semi contact environment because it wouldn't hurt anyone, not without brilliant timing.

So I think there's a lot going on there that's poor, depending on what it purports to be. If it's "a couple of friends playing semi contact" then OK, but to bill it as somwthing more than that? Nah.

    Mitch

Just my thoughts anyway, someone will come along and point out how wrong I am soon :D

They are not looking like they are really dressed for sparring and there are plenty of people that strike with an open hand to avoid injury from "closed fist vs head" scenarios. In-fact back in the early days of my Uni club there were only two guys who had managed to get boxing gloves and we didn't have any common equipment so we ended up spending a couple of sessions sparring open hand-light contact to the head.

Regardless of any flaws presented in it, we've seen alot worse on MAP, I just don't think the video for what it is, is that bad.
