You know, that part with the tennis balls is something I have seen for basic training on how to avoid things. Most of the students going through it seem to be pretty young. But I have done a few drills in my class with rubber shuriken. The bow and arrow.... now that is new to me. But not how the guy ended up. Now that I have had happen to me a few times.
