For combat demonstration based on blades, what I am more used to seeing is in the following video at 5:54+, where there is long stick vs 2 shorter sticks. The two short sticks are handled more like blades than sticks... for instance, both sticks are used to defend at the same time but one of the defending sticks is also attacking (e.g. cutting the wrist of the enemy or ready to thrust). More emphasis on cutting and thrusting than blunt impact. The difference between hitting with stick (blunt weapon) and cutting/thrusting with blade (knife) shows good contrast, IMHO: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8vdmVrJg24"]Arnis of the 50s: French Documentary - YouTube[/ame]
Agree with you 47Martialartman,I wouldnt hold a longer wooden weapon the way it is being held in the vid clip against 2 edged weapons, would anyone? Love the Giron clip and the french doc.
People take theory too serious without the course of conclusion. Theory can also get you killed. Theory can be misleading to whereas people "play" I am not going to "play" ....Karate ....Swordmanship/Kendo ....Judo ....Ju Jitsu ....etc I learn for the sake of learning what I need... Not for the sake of posting a vid thinking I am knowing what I am doing when in actually, I am not (*takes position of most of those martial art vids)

hence the "disputatio"- to dispute. you take theory and dispute it against reality. that's where sparring comes in. that's where hard play comes in. that is where laban laro comes in. repetitio-disputatio-cogito!
Understood this. I was making a generalize post on how some do not follow these simple guidelines opting to be fixed on a theory from blind faith or no logic
my teacher used to say to me: "kukunin mo ang tinuru ko at babangain mo sa katotohanan" (take what i taught you and bang it against reality/ the truth).
One of my teachers used to say to me; "Do Unto To Others, Before they Do Unto You" Remind me of the translation; "asong ulol kahol ng kahol!"
I read you had posted; "asong ulol kahol ng kahol!" and its translation I don't remember the translation
