Thanks, Bozza. The irony, eh? It'd have to have brought chills to the lads. Most of these bands had their start about the time I was sent away. In the Shankill and Loyalist areas, at least at that time, 'punk' was synonymous with Skin and most of the bands had strong ties to the NFF, National Front and the like. I heard years later they turned on each other... sad, sad. There was an exception to that rule of thumb. Don't know if they are still around. One of the very few that went against the tide of violence - Ruefrex. With me being the product of a mixed marriage - my father a Taig, mother a prod - I would've gravitated to them if I'd known more about them at the time. I was already gone by the time they started recording. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6N7yCgoC5g"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6N7yCgoC5g[/ame]
"Sent away"??? I think we need to hear that story! I thought The Undertones and SLF always kept away from the religious politics in Belfast. I'm sure they both refused to say whether they were Catholics or Protestants at the time. Everyone seems to be wearing a Rudi or Outcasts shirt these days. I dunno how this interest in old NI bands came about, but it seems to be a bit in at the moment.
Not nearly as amusing as the time I tripped to Wonderland after that girl had me to lick her ... postage. Ja, there's a whole group of us here (and probably where you are) as I found out years later. Those lucky to have some means of escape for their children. That's true of them and it was true of Ruefrex. The one's I'm referring to you probably never heard about, nor would want to know about - they were exclusively sectarian in thought, body and song. I don't think they were known outside of Loyalist areas. Can't even remember any of their names...seems like there was a marching pipes/fife band that made a name for themselves but I don't remember and really don't want to. My brain is shot. Never got over those confounded Daffy Duck stamps
I remember Johnny Adair (UFF/UDA) was a right wing skinhead in his youth and might have got bands like Skrewdriver over to play in Belfast. He played in bands himself and was well into the NF. I am sure there was numerous others. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Adair#Early_life
I looked just long enough to see if he'd gone to Glenwood infant's and primary. I don't think it around any more. Had to quit reading the article - its just a childhood nightmare I woke up from, anyroad. It never ever existed. Bozza...did you see what Van put down?? What should we do? On the one hand, he didn't post an actual video nor link. But on the other hand, its still a consecration of hollowed ground... The conviction of which to be punished by a sentance of twelve hours of Motörhead to be played through a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 studio phones at 88% of its maximum volume. Enjoy! I...just....don't know what to say. Some of us grew up with Daffy Duck and stamp collecting, others were less fortunate. I'm sitting in a darkened room Electric Wizard turned up trying to wipe the image of that post out of my mind. That just made me laugh...lawd, lawd. I didn't grow up with Daffy Duck. I didn't seek out Daffy Duck. Daffy was thrust upon me.
You disgust me. Look at what you can do when you learn to use your hands. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mE02JHvCEUM"]Henri Herbert @ King's Cross St. Pancras, London - YouTube[/ame]
@Simon's post. Gooood. I hate seeing stuff like that...Purely due to jealousy as I have no musical ability at all!!! Maybe I should have tried for a career in pop music.

Looks like Scott Weiland just died. I wasn't a Stone Temple Pilots fan, but I LOVE the album Contraband by Velvet Revolver. This is my favorite song by them and I am listening to it a couple of times in a row right now. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKz2U4fvA4U"]Velvet Revolver - Slither - YouTube[/ame]
